Take Action 12.18 - 12.20.17

Call to stop the TaxScam before it’s too late! Be prepared to get loud and rowdy if Mueller is fired. Put some parties and meetings on your calendar.

1. Action
Everything we read suggests that we ought to give up. The Republicans have won. They will shrink the government, they will eliminate programs that protect and improve the lives of people, and we should all just go spend money while we have it.

It’s a good thing we don’t listen!

If we had listened, no one would have come out for the Women’s March. No one would have shown up at airports. No one would have called, and called, and called again to stop the attacks on the ACA.

The Tax Scam is not a done deal - we have the time and energy to continue resisting this terrible plan, and to urge our Senators and Representatives to resist! It’s time to make calls. And we need to act immediately, so don’t put this off.

Call Republican members of our California delegation, and highlight the damage the tax bill will cause to ordinary people like us.

And don’t forget, we continue to have a leverage in this fight. Here is another tool to call progressives in Red States.

Some Republican Senators voted for the Tax Scam, but also said the bill wasn’t perfect. Amp up the pressure on these Senators: Sign up now to start making calls to progressives in red states. You can make calls as much as you want every day from 6am to 6pm our time until the tax scam fight is over.

You may have done this already - and we thank you for your dedication. Please make those calls. Representatives and Senators need to hear from us, and understand we see the impact this tax bill will have on our communities.

What if the Republican President fires Rosenstein in order to remove Mueller?
Indivisible is working with Move-On to guarantee that NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW—MUELLER FIRING RAPID RESPONSE

Donald Trump is publicly considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, the person leading the Department of Justice investigation of possible illegal actions by Donald Trump and members of his presidential campaign, and the efforts to conceal those activities.

This would be a constitutional crisis for our country. It would demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump.

Our response in the minutes and hours following a power grab will dictate what happens next, and whether Congress—the only body with the constitutional power and obligation to rein Trump in from his rampage—will do anything to stand up to him.

That's why Indivisible and Move-On are preparing to hold emergency "Nobody is Above the Law" in Santa Rosa in the event it’s necessary.

If you want to be notified about when and where, register here.

2. Scripts
Keep the pressure on! The tax bill will hurt homeowners, the elderly, people who get a paycheck and many others. There’s only one way to fight back - get loud! Make your voice heard on taxes, the DREAM act, the Mueller investigation, and more.

It’s time to make some calls (Phone Scripts 12.18 - 12.20.17). Use the web or Amplify. Sign up using getamplify.org and, when asked, use the Indivisible Sonoma County invite code: 550-532-372.

Amplify is our most efficient and accountable method to share scripts among ourselves -- and with other Indivisibles. Using it as a guide,  know that your own personal wording, and your story,  are the most powerful messages to impact our MoCs. The first sentence or two of the script has the primary ask for your legislator. Feel free to address more than one subject in your phone calls or emails.

From the Organizers, Bay Resistance: California will not stand idly while our immigrant communities are under attack. The community demands Democrats to back their words by action and rise up for undocumented youth!

Rather than resist Trump’s anti-immigrant attacks, congressional and senate democrats have abandoned the immigrant community by not doing what is right and shutting down the government if no DREAM Act bill is included in the spending bill.

By not pushing for a DREAM Act under the house spending bill, Democrats are deliberately doing the least amount possible to remove DACA youth from harm’s way along with the immigrant community at large.

Praxis Peace Institute will begin 2018 with an outstanding program featuring the work of award-winning climate scientist, Mark Z. Jacobson. Jacobson, who is a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, is one of the most important climate scientists on the planet today. His career has been focused on better understanding air pollution and global warming and in developing large-scale clean, renewable energy solutions to these problems. As a result, he has developed roadmaps -- using combinations of wind, solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric energy -- to transition all fifty U.S. states, and countries around the world, to 100% clean renewable energy for all purposes.

“Women’s March”
-> Saturday, January 27 at 7 PM
Congregation Shomrei Torah
2600 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa
Free and open to the public.
This past January many thousands of women marched on Washington to express to the new president and Congress that women’s rights are human rights and their power cannot be ignored. That same day, hundreds of sister marches took place in cities and small towns across America, including Santa Rosa. It was the largest one-day protest in American history.

Women’s March is a powerful film about democracy, human rights and what it means to stand up for your values in America today. Meet people who organize for social action throughout Sonoma County, including IndySoCo’s Karen D’Or.
