Each and every one of us is being affected by this immense, unprecedented disaster that has been bearing down on our communities. Some of us are reading this from shelters. Others, from a motel. Or a car, a coffee shop, or a friend’s couch.
This week, as we learn more about how Russians intervened in our election, we are in 'Go' mode trying our best to stop Republicans from loosening gun control regulations, from passing a budget resolution that will take away safety net services, from moving forward on tax giveaways for the wealthy, and from taking away reproductive rights.
This week, we focus on halting Republicans from loosening gun control regulations, passing a cruel budget resolution, and assaulting endangered species. We also call for impeachment, once again. Our first script is for Governor Brown to sign Mike McGuire’s SB149 bill. Thanks for being Indivisible!
Here is some wisdom from Indivisible National, now found at http://www.indivisible.org/: “After nine months of fighting TrumpCare, we can finally say that we’ve killed the bill. To be sure, Republicans may keep trying to resurrect the bill, so we have to remain vigilant. But you stopped Trump’s number one policy priority. That’s a huge deal.”
This week, we focus on the budget resolution/taxation, the Puerto Rico crisis, protecting insurance for children, ensuring Mueller can continue his investigation unimpeded support the OFF Act, and more. We will continue to promote Amplify which makes life easy! If you are using other apps we support and commend you; you can actually use Amplify as a tool show how many actions we take together. Download it today for IPhone or Android. Our invite code is 550-532-372.
This week, we are focusing on the Republican President’s proposed tax plan, which primarily benefit people making over $1 million, and thanking our Members of Congress for steadfastly fighting against the Graham-Cassidy bill, which would have taken insurance from tens of millions of Americans and thrown our healthcare system into chaos.
We’d like to say we can all take a deep breath now, and enjoy the rest of the year. That’s not an option. Puerto Rico is in crisis, with it own version of Katrina. Senate Leadership had barely pulled their most recent disastrous healthcare proposal before they released their plan for ‘tax reform.’ We continue to need your perseverance and passion in order to support progressive goals. Without you, we would have to rely on Republican solutions. And you know where that would get us.
On Monday, Republicans will hold a hearing in the Senate Finance Committee that’s designed to legitimize the one-sided process to repeal the Affordable Care act. Even with a few Republicans indicating they will vote against his bill, Senator Sen. Lindsey Graham said the GOP would manage to round up the 50 votes necessary to pass Obamacare repeal. Unacceptable!
This week, we continue to fight the Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill. No vote has been scheduled yet but the Senate has until Saturday, September 30, before budget reconciliation rules expire and the vote threshold in the Senate goes up to 60. Even with a few Republicans indicating a “no” vote, this fight is not over! The three action steps you can take this week are...
On Monday, Republicans will hold a hearing in the Senate Finance Committee that’s designed to provide a fictional “process” as a fig leaf to win Republican (particularly McCain’s) votes. We call on our Senators to do all they can procedurally and persuasively to #KilltheBill?
Now that we are all experienced at fighting Trumpcare, and we know how to win, let's not let up! Graham and Cassidy are at it again pretending they have come up with a solution. This bill is not bi-partisan, it is a wolf in disguise -- and we are not out of the woods yet. We need to fight hard, and we need to fight now. See the ‘explainer’ from Indivisible Guide to learn more about this bill
Indivisible Sonoma County is pleased to share relevant and strong scripts, the product of talented and energetic new volunteers -- as well as the old guard -- who research issues and update scripts regularly. We address Russia, DACA, CSR payments, climate SNAP funding, diplomacy, nominations, and more.
Congress returns to Washington this week, and they have a ton on their plate to finish by the end of September. They must raise the debt ceiling, agree on a plan to fund the government, and reauthorize critical programs such as the national flood insurance and Children’s Health Insurance. We ask our MoCs to protect DACA, to censure the President and to begin formal inquiry into the possibility of impeachment.
We decry the violence and hate of white nationalism and we denounce the evil of white supremacy. Let’s keep our eyes on the goals of an indivisible nation that consistently supports liberty and justice. For all.
We welcome all new and returning Indivisibles. Together, Let's Make Congress Listen!
To get you fired up for calls, here is a recent 'rant' from an Indivisible activist: "There are now people in our government who want to change our government into something I don't want it to be. And they are moving to reduce and/or take away my power as a voter and citizen and resident of this country. And they are diminishing my significance while at the same time enhancing the importance of entities with lots of money/power/connections, and that is totally not okay... Read more.
Scripts this week have us calling our Senators about healthcare (keep it up!), net neutrality, voting rights and election interference/collusion -- massive threats to our democracy.. For our Congressmen, we focus on free press, net neutrality and voting rights. These are critical, constitutional issues. Go Indivisible!
Call your Members of Congress about new information that Donald Trump, Jr. (and others) met with a Russian government attorney. They met to get what Trump Jr. was explicitly told was the Russian government’s help in the election. We ask that you call both Senators and your Congressman.
Lawmakers are back in session this week. McConnell will continue to press for a healthcare vote. In addition to continuing our ask for Senators to push for bipartisan solutions to improve the ACA, we ask them to rigorously protect voting rights. We ask our Congressmen to also protect voter rights, as well as the Legal Services Corporation which serves thousands of low-income individuals, veterans, children, families, and seniors in every congressional district.
The Senate is trying to do what the House of Representatives did in May: jam through its TrumpCare bill without an honest and open discussion about its full impact on American families. In addition to our continued fight against repeal of the ACA, we ask for our lawmakers to introduce a bill that requires states to upgrade and secure their voter data, to halt the elimination of the Legal Services Corporation, and to denounce the Republican President’s use of name-calling and unforgivable language.
Indys...if you have never done any action, or if you are a daily caller, please STEP IT UP this week via phone, social media, letters to the editor, calls to Senators, and outreach to friends and family out of state. Here is our two-step plan...
Today’s scripts for Senators continue to focus on healthcare and the procedures that lead up to a vote in the Senate prior to July 4th. There are also scripts for those with Republican Senators who have not yet committed to their position. Indivisible encourages us to use our networks to find friends living in those states to make calls to their senators. Those numbers and scripts are at the bottom of this page.
Please follow our eight-step action plan for this week to Stop #TrumpCare. Our Call to Action (CtA) includes reaching out to friends both in and out of state with a focus on friends in Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Maine, Ohio, Alaska and West Virginia.
Scripts thank Senator Harris for her strength, and ask both our Senators to be strong with the Comey testimony /Mueller investigation. We ask that Senator Feinstein oppose the nomination of Bush for the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and thank our Congressmen for ensuring that California moves forward into a cleaner and healthier 21st Century.
Phone scripts this week address hearing from James Comey, Sessions Security clearance, holding the line on healthcare, housing, ICE detention centers and the environment. Please use your own language and ensure your voice is heard!
We are charged up and ready to fight! We are angry about the Administration’s secretive and all-too-cozy relationship with Russia. We are fearful about the future of healthcare. Indications are that the budget and tax plan will only benefit the wealthy. We foresee a long and arduous road ahead to make substantive change in our country, and that is why we say this is a marathon!
In our suggested scripts this week we work to keep Trumpcare from EVER passing the Senate, we begin to dig into Budget Appropriation committee intricacies, we request full funding for the Census Bureau, and we ask that Jared Kushner’s security clearance be revoked.
These scripts address the budget and its impacts, the need for further comprehensive investigation into Russian influence in the recent election, LGBTQI Civil Rights, and immigration. Keep calling: our Members of Congress encourage us to speak out!
