Rescue the People of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to demand an immediate and comprehensive rescue for the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While the President plays golf and hides FEMA information about the recovery efforts, people on the ground are still desperately in need of our help. Lives will be lost if we don’t act now.

Will the [MoC] demand that the Administration save the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. V.I. by using all the resources at its disposal to avert disaster and rebuild the islands?

Stop the Sabotage of the ACA

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

After failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act outright, the Administration is continuing to do everything in its power to undermine the ACA and endanger the healthcare of millions. They’ve cut outreach and refuse to guarantee that they’ll continue to make subsidy payments, which will cause insurers to spike premiums as a precaution. Now in addition they’ll remove the requirement to provide birth control coverage from health plans.

The Administration is doing everything in its power to cause the ACA to fail. Please support all efforts to stabilize rather than destroy the Affordable Care Act.

Can I count on the [Senator/Representative] to do that?

Oppose Lowering Corporate Tax Rate

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

Few corporations actually pay their fair share in taxes. Many pay none at all. A majority of Americans think corporations should pay MORE in taxes, not less. The economic body of research on this is clear: cutting the corporate tax rate doesn’t help workers—it helps CEOs and shareholders. I know we have a high statuatory rate, but the effective rate—what corporations actually pay—is in line with the rest of the world. There’s no evidence to suggest that lowering our corporate tax rate will increase American competitiveness. Will you commit to me, your constituent, that you will oppose any tax plan that lowers the corporate tax rate?

Ensure DREAMers Get Immediate Relief

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible

In September, Democratic leadership committed to using the December deadline to fund the government to pass the DREAM Act. After striking a deal with Donald Trump, in which Democrats secured a three-month government spending bill and a temporary raise to the debt ceiling, Democrats promised that they would use their new leverage in December to pass a clean DREAM Act. As your constituent, will you take the “DREAMer Pledge”? In other words, will you commit to voting NO on any December spending bill if it does not include a clean DREAM Act?

Withhold Consent for Trump’s Tax Scam

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

Republicans will stop at nothing to jam the Trump Tax Scam through the Senate. It will be just like TrumpCare: secret negotiations and every procedural trick they can think of to pass it with speed and secrecy. One of the best things Democrats did during the TrumpCare fight to draw attention to the disaster of TrumpCare was withhold consent. Will you commit to me that you will use every procedural tool at your disposal—including withholding consent if necessary—to defeat the Trump Tax Scam?

Thank You for Leadership to Close the Automatic Weapon Loophole

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

I want to thank [Senator Feinstein for introducing] or [Senator Harris for co-sponsoring] the Automatic Gun Fire Prevention Act to outlaw bump stocks and other accessories which convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic weapons capable of firing 400-800 rounds per minute. This insanity has to stop and I’m proud that you’re taking a first step. I’ll also be right behind you when you act to ban semi-automatic weapons, which fire 45-60 rounds per minute. Thank you for working to keep Americans safe!

Extend CHIP!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to push for an immediate extension to CHIP, based on the work of the Senate Finance Committee under Orrin Hatch and Ron Wyden. CHIP provides health insurance for 9 million American children and the program was allowed to expire on September 30th. Efforts to extend it were delayed due to the awful Graham-Cassidy bill. It’s past time to get this done and keep those 9 million children safe.

Will the [MoC] push for immediate action to extend CHIP?

Stop the Trump Tax Scam

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

Republicans will stop at nothing to jam the Trump Tax Scam through the Senate. It will be just like TrumpCare: secret negotiations and every procedural trick they can think of to pass it with speed and secrecy. Fair changes to the tax code can only be achieved through regular order in the Senate, a process that involves both parties and requires a 60-vote majority.

I urge you to stop the Trump Tax Scam altogether by stopping the budget resolution, particularly any Budget bill that prohibits a senate filibuster on tax code legislation. The longer it takes Republicans to fight over and pass the budget resolution, the better. Please also oppose any changes to the tax code until Trump releases his tax returns, and the bill has been fully and fairly analyzed and scored by the CBO.

Thank you.

Co-sponsor HF 3464 to stop firearm sales prior to complete background checks

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.

Please join California Representatives Swalwell and DeSaulnier as co-sponsors of H. R. 3464 Background Check Completion Act of 2017. Current law allows gun sales to proceed after 72 hours—even if background checks aren’t approved. The gap in existing law has allowed thousands of gun sales to prohibited buyers, including the sale of the firearm used by Dylann Roof in his deadly attack at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina last year. The bill is now in the House
Committee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations, please speak to your colleagues about Co-sponsoring this bill, and do everything in your power to stop gun violence and get guns off the street.

Thank you,

Bonus for Congressman Thompson:
Thank you for your work on the House Gun Violence Protection Task Force, and your letter October 4 letter to President Trump. In your letter you state: “For years, we have extended our hand and asked the Republican Leadership to come to the table to work with us to find a solution. At every turn, they have refused.”

While Indivisible applauds bi-partisan efforts, we feel they are likely not going to happen in this session -- and we urge you to work with all your Democratic colleagues to be out in front and get guns off the street.”
