Emergency! We need to stop the Republican budget in its tracks!!
Budgets are the best way to calculate the moral center of government. How much does the government allocate toward controlling behavior, and how much to feed the poor, care for the ill, house the poor? Does the government put its money into streets and schools, into clean air and water, or does it put more dollars toward commerce?
The Republican budget is a perfect calculation of values. It increases spending for the military, border security, and school choice by taking funding from diplomacy, the EPA, HUD and other department budgets.
In fact, it took much more money from those other budgets than it allocated to the military. Why?
Because in an effort to give generous tax cuts to the very wealthy, the budget would create an enormous deficit - so the Republican budget calls for diverting and reducing funds that support the programs that benefit us all.
The House is set to vote on the budget in the next 48 hours. Please use your power to make those calls to our Members of Congress, and keep our safety net. For all our sakes. See the scripts below.
Follow Through on the Russia Investigations
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to urge [the MoC] to demand that the [House/Senate] Committee[s] investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election continue to conduct thorough and public investigations. The efforts must be fully resourced, diligently conducted, visible to the public and absolutely not cut short. Russian interference on behalf of Trump in the 2016 election was an attack on our nation. We still don’t know the extent to which Trump and his associates collaborated in the effort – if they did, this would make the President of the United States the stooge of a hostile foreign power. Republicans in Congress are attempting to undercut these investigations, thereby abetting Russia, not defending their country. They are striking at the heart of our democracy. This must be thwarted.
Will [the MoC] demand that Congressional investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election be conducted thoroughly, openly and with full resources and resolve?
Fund CHIP now!
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to do everything in [here/his] power to secure funding for CHIP now. The Children’s Health Insurance Program provides insurance to 9 million American children. Funding it should be a no-brainer. Yet the program was allowed to expire on October 1st and it still hasn’t been renewed, lost in the miasma of vile behavior from Trump and Republican bickering over the ACA and their Tax Scam. Enough is enough. Please demand that CHIP be extended now.
Call Out Republican Sabotage of Americans’ Health
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that [the MoC] demand an end to the sabotage of the Affordable Care Act. Trump has gutted enrollment outreach, cut the enrollment period, sown uncertainty and issued an executive order that eliminates CSRs (Cost Sharing Reduction payments) that support insurers’ ability to keep premiums down. Republicans are colluding with him by refusing to write legislation that would shore up the ACA, while Trump continues to make demands that would gut it, not support the Act, which was broadly successful before he attacked it. Congress must act to rescue the Act, upon which millions of Americans depend. If Republicans choke this effort, I’m asking [the MoC] to regularly call them out, so that there can be no doubt in the public’s mind who is responsible for the pain, suffering and death which will ensue.
Will [the MoC] demand an end to the sabotage? And, if they are unsuccessful, will they make sure that the Republican Party is forever blamed for the damage that ensues?
Save our 401(k)s
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to demand that the Republicans keep their hands off of the 401(k) tax deduction. The Trumpublican tax “reform” is a transparent effort to take money and programs away from poor and middle class Americans and give it to the super rich. Inequality in the United States in already at jaw-dropping levels. A large majority of Americans want taxes raised on the rich and on corporations, not dropped. Please stop the Republican attack on programs and deductions that benefit ordinary Americans. The rich don’t need our help.
Will [the MoC] demand that Republicans keep their hands off of Americans’ 401(k) deductions?
Thank You – and Don’t Forget Puerto Rico and the US VI!
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank the Senator for helping to pass the $36.5 billion Relief Bill to address the damage caused by hurricanes and the firestorm that hit California this month. We’re grateful to have two Senators who have stood up for us in our hour of need. We have been hit hard, but we have the resolve – and now your help – to recover and rebuild. Thank you! But I ask you also to continue to press for efforts to aid the victims in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The disasters may have been different, but we are united as Americans and in suffering. While we have the two of you to fight for us, Puerto Rico and the US VI have no representation in Congress. They have been actively disparaged and ignored by the Trump administration. They need help, too. As you fight for us, please also fight for them.
Stop the Republican Budget Attack on Working Americans!
Hi, my name is _____ and I live in <zip>. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I’m calling to plead that Representative [Thompson/Huffman] do everything in their power to stop the Republican budget reconciliation bill in its tracks. The bill is an atrocity. It will eviscerate essential programs and benefits for working Americans and give the savings to the super-rich. This is morally indefensible. In addition it will explode the deficit, leaving future generations with a crushing burden. This is unpardonable.
We have a new saying: the love in the air is thicker than the smoke. It also needs to be stronger than the greed and avarice. Please, sink this bill.
