Kill the Republican Tax Scam

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to vigorously oppose the tax scam that the Republicans are attempting to jam through Congress. Masquerading as “tax reform”, the bill is a con:  it showers massive tax cuts on the rich and corporations while taking money and benefits from working Americans and exploding the deficit. Starting off bad, it gets even worse over time. And, to top things off, the bill is designed to cause the most damage to the residents of blue states such as California, through eliminating state and local tax and mortgage deductions.

Will the [Senator/Representative] fight this awful bill tooth and nail?

Defend Democracy:  Protect the Mueller Investigation

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the Senator/Representative] to support legislation to protect the Mueller investigation. Donald Trump was elected President with help from a Russia, a hostile foreign power. He and his campaign may have, in fact, colluded with Russia to throw the election. Certainly they had many contacts with Russian agents, actively sought to collude, hid the evidence, lied about it and have tried in a variety of ways to impede investigations into the truth. Nothing could be a more serious threat to our democracy. As Robert Mueller’s investigation begins to bear fruit, frightened Republicans and their propaganda machine are attempting to discredit his work. There is a grave danger that Trump may even fire Mueller or cut his funding to hamper his work. The investigation must be protected.

Will the [Senator/Representative] support legislation to protect the Mueller investigation and call out those who would undercut it?

Protect Our Elections from Interference

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to support Senator [Feinstein’s/Harris’s] aggressive questioning of Facebook, Twitter and Google and to urge them to go further and propose or co-sponsor legislation to protect our social media from being weaponized in the future.

As Senator Feinstein has noted, this is cyberwarfare – and an illegitimate President has apparently been the result. The warfare hasn’t stopped:  bots are now being used to promote the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Virginia. While I realize that this is new territory and that crafting such legislation will require careful thought, it’s imperative that foreign actors be stopped from weaponizing our social media against us.

This has to happen soon. Please, go beyond your questioning to develop legislation to protect us from this new form of cyberwarfare.

Open a Formal Impeachment Inquiry

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Representative [Thompson/Huffman] to authorize the Judiciary Committee to open a formal inquiry into the possible impeachment of Donald J Trump.

Through his abuses of power, his failure of moral leadership and his abandonment of the basic duties of his office, Trump has shown himself unfit to serve and should be impeached. His abuses of the office continue daily. “There is no bigger abuse of power than the president ordering his Justice Department to investigate his political enemies or back off his political allies, and Trump has done both,” says former Justice Department communications director Matthew Miller. I must demand an answer from the Representative:  if not now, when?

Will Representative [Thompson or Huffman] publicly support authorizing the Judiciary Committee to open a formal inquiry into the possible impeachment of Donald J Trump?

Hold PG&E Accountable for Causing Wildfires

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I live in Sonoma County, which has been unimaginably devastated by the firestorms that have swept our county last month. While we don’t yet know the cause(s) of the firestorms, there have been multiple reports of power lines shorting out during the night of October 8th, when the fires started. It’s distinctly possible that PG&E is responsible for some or all of the firestorms. In recent years, PG&E has stalled mapping and maintenance of equipment with the CPUC’s acquiescence. Even now PG&E is attempting to shirk responsibility for the 2007 San Diego wildfires. They must not be allowed to pass the costs onto their ratepayers, but must bear all of the costs of those fires – and of ours, if they are found responsible – themselves.

I’m demanding that the CPUC hold PG&E fully and financially accountable for wildfires that they have caused and that, in the future, you hold them stringently to maintenance requirements.
