Phone Scripts 12.11 - 12.13.17: Make Them Own the Tax Scam/Protect the Mueller Investigation + More

With so much going on, focus is important. Please make your calls today - and again tomorrow.  Our scripts urge our Senators and Representatives to hold the Republican Congress to account for the Tax Scam, efforts to stop the Mueller investigation, failure to act on the DREAMers and to fund CHIP, and using tax dollars to hush up sexual impropriety.

Make Republicans Own the Tax Scam

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to urge the MoC to continue to loudly oppose the Republican Tax Scam. The Republicans are ramming a bill with historically low public approval through Congress at breakneck speed. Fortunately, they have been in such a rush that they included a massive error in the Senate version of the bill, forcing the effort to now go to committee.

This tax scam is a gigantic present for the super-rich, financed on the backs of working Americans. It actively discriminates against wage-earners and rewards investors and heirs. What’s more, it will blow a hole in the deficit – which Republicans will then use to decimate Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The whole package is an aggressive attack on the safety net that Americans rely on, just to give even more money to people who can’t possibly spend what they already have. It’s an atrocity.

I’m asking [the MoC] to vehemently oppose the bill and more:  to loudly and publicly brand the GOP with it so that they are forevermore identified as the party that attacks working Americans on behalf of their donors, the ultra-rich. Will I be reading about [my MoC’s] attacks on the bill this week?

Protect the Mueller Investigation

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] join [his/her] colleagues and protect the Mueller investigation despite Republican attempts to undermine it.

We know that Russia interfered in the 2016 election on behalf of Donald Trump. We also know that there were many attempts by the Trump campaign to collude with the Russians, and there is significant evidence that Trump has attempted to obstruct justice in the case. Trump campaign and administration figures have been charged with crimes and in some cases plead guilty.

There are cooperating witnesses. Mueller’s investigation is critical and it is bearing fruit. This is scaring Republicans, who are actively attempting to undermine the probe’s legitimacy and to lay the groundwork for Trump to fire Mueller. This threatens our very democracy and must not happen.

I am asking [my MoC] to band together with other colleagues, hold a news conference, and publicly name and shame the Republicans who are working to undermine the investigation. This must happen this week.

Protect Internet Freedom

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [my MoC] to do everything in [her/his] power to delay the FCC’s vote on “Net Neutrality” and to criticize Chairman Ajit Pai for ignoring the will of the American people, instead selling the FCC out to the big broadband providers.

The FCC is considering a rule reversal that would allow corporations to decide what content is available online while pricing most citizens out of equal access to information. The FCC has been flooded with letters of protest, with 98.5% of the comments running against the reversal. The process has been skewed by more than a million fraudulent comments in support of the reversal, including half a million coming from Russia. The vote must be delayed until the improprieties have been sorted out. And then net neutrality must be preserved.

Will the [MoC] fight fiercely to preserve the freedom of the internet?

Demand an Investigation of the Assaulter-in-Chief

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that Senator [Feinstein/Harris], along with her Democrat colleagues in the Senate, hold a news conference to demand a Senate investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment by Donald Trump.

The #MeToo movement has sparked an awakening in our society. Just this last week Senator Franken stepped down at the request of his colleagues in the Senate. Yet the allegations against him pale in comparison to those against the President. While I have no illusions about Republicans’ willingness to hold Trump accountable for anything at all, it’s not right that Democrats remain silent.

Will the Senator band together with her Senate colleagues and demand an investigation into the allegations of assault against Donald Trump?

You Have Leverage – USE IT!!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Senator Feinstein to USE the leverage she has to oppose Continuing Resolutions to fund the government until the Republicans in Congress agree to help the DREAMers, fund CHIP and extend Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico.

Republicans need Democratic support in order to keep the government running. For once, they have to address what Democrats want instead of ignoring us. We want the DREAMers to be protected, the Children’s Health Insurance Program to have its funding extended and for Medicaid funding to be extended for Puerto Rico. If the Republicans won’t give us this, let them shut it down.

Will the Senator protect the DREAMers, fund CHIP and help Puerto Rico, even if it means shutting down the government?

Make the Harassers Pay

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m a constituent from zip code _____.  I’m also a member of Indivisible.  It was recently revealed that taxpayers were charged thousands of dollars to settle sexual harassment allegations against some congressmen.

Although victims of sexual harassment deserve compensation, it is outrageous that taxpayers have been left footing the bill for the congressmen’s bad behavior.  The ME TOO Congress Act forces members of Congress to reimburse the government for their sexual harassment payouts.

I am calling to ask Senator Feinstein to add her name as a co-sponsor of this legislation.

Thank you.

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m a constituent from zip code _____.  I’m also a member of Indivisible.  I am calling to thank Senator Harris for co-sponsoring the ME TOO Congress Act.  It is outrageous that taxpayers have been forced to foot the bill for some congressmen’s sexual harassment settlements.  Although victims of sexual harassment deserve compensation, I’m glad that this legislation makes members of Congress financially accountable for their own bad behavior, rather than shifting the responsibility to taxpayers.
