Phone Scripts 10.4-10.7.2018: I Stand With Christine Blasey Ford + more...

If you can do nothing else, call to assure our Senators that you support their efforts to determine whether Kavanaugh is fit for a lifetime appointment. (And if you’ve already determined that for yourself, call again and again!)

Enough is enough.

Stop Incarcerating Children (to be read screaming)!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to insist that the Trump administration* STOP PUTTING CHILDREN IN CAMPS. NOW. That’s all you need to know. STOP IT.

Background:

I Stand With Christine Blasey Ford

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to tell [the MoC] that I stand with Dr Christine Blasey Ford, as well as the other women who have courageously come forward. I condemn with all my being the despicable Donald Trump for mocking her and I pledge to [the MoC] that I will do everything in my power to see him defeated, accused, tried and imprisoned. For life. Trust me, there will be more than enough evidence.

No True Investigation, No Senate Confirmation

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that the Senator relentlessly continue to say that if there is no credible FBI investigation – and there isn’t yet – there can be no Senate confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.

Background:

Thursday: His Partisanship Disqualifies Kavanaugh

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to tell the Senator that she must continue to oppose the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh because his partisan rant last Thursday proved that he cannot credibly serve on the Court.

To quote Benjamin Wittes: “I can not condone the partisanship – which was raw, undisguised, naked, and conspiratorial – from someone who asks for public faith as a dispassionate and impartial judicial actor.”

Background:

Friday: His Response to Allegations Disqualifies Kavanaugh

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to continue to state that while Dr Blasey Ford’s allegations against Brett Kavanaugh are entirely credible, his testimony was riddled with lies and is therefore entirely suspect.

To quote Benjamin Wittes: “Ford is wholly credible…we cannot be quite so confident that [Kavanaugh] was being candid…And lack of candor in a witness in one area raises questions about the integrity of that witness’s testimony in other areas.”

Wednesday: His Lying Disqualifies Kavanaugh

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to continue to state that Brett Kavanaugh’s lies, large and small, are entirely disqualifying for an aspirant to our highest court.

To quote Nathan J Robinson: “What does it say about this country that this is the state of our discourse? That Kavanaugh even stands any chance of being made one of the most powerful figures in the American government, with control over life and liberty? That a man like this is even a judge? He went before the United States Senate and showed total contempt for his vow to tell the truth. He attempted to portray a highly esteemed doctor as a crazy person, by consistently misrepresenting the evidence. He treated the public like we were idiots, like we wouldn’t notice as he pretended he was ralphing during Beach Week from too many jalapeños, as he feigned ignorance about sex slang, as he misread his own meticulously-kept 1982 summer calendar, as he replied to questions about his drinking habits by talking about church, as he suggested there are no alcoholics at Yale, as he denied knowing who “Bart O’Kavanaugh” could possibly be based on, as he declared things refuted that weren’t actually refuted, as he claimed witnesses said things they didn’t say, as he failed to explain why nearly a dozen Yale classmates said he drank heavily, as he invented an imaginary drinking game to avoid admitting he had the mind of a sports jock in high school, as he said Ford had only accused him last week, as he responded to his roommate’s eyewitness statement with an incoherent story about furniture, as he pretended Bethesda wasn’t five miles wide, as he insisted Renate should be flattered by the ditty about how easy she was, as he declared that distinguished federal judges don’t commit sexual misconduct even though he had clerked for exactly such a judge.

And what does it say about us, and our political system, that he might well get away with it??”
