There are only so many minutes in the day. Take three minutes, and call our Members of Congress. Tell them No Wall. Urge them to vote NO on the nominee for Attorney General. Push to get a Green New Deal.
And for the sake of all that’s good in humanity, tell them to reunite the children with their families. This national disgrace should have ended a year ago.
NO wall, NO martial law!
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to continue to hold strong against a single penny for Trump’s racist wall and against any attempt on his part to declare a state of emergency, aka martial law.
The president doesn’t have the ‘power of the purse’. Congress, and Congress alone, does. The House must continue to refuse Trump even a cent for his useless, racist wall. And if he moves to declare a state of emergency to reallocate spending without Congressional approval – an impeachable offense – then Congress must override him.
NO on William Barr’s Nomination as Attorney General
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to publicly state their opposition to William Barr as Attorney General.
Barr has a conflict of interest, as Trump wanted to hire him as his defense attorney, and has made statements that indicate he would help Trump undercut the Mueller investigation and obstruct justice.
Further, he has a long record of arguing for expansive presidential power, ramping up mass incarceration, and attacking civil rights. Trump’s agenda puts vulnerable communities at risk, and William Barr would carry out that agenda if confirmed.
I will be watching for the Senator’s statement of opposition to William Barr as Attorney General.
Return ALL of the Children NOW
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Representative [Huffman / Thompson] to demand the return of all separated migrant children to their parents – and to demand that the House subpoena testimony from the perpetrators, HHS Secretary Alex Azar and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
It was reported this week that thousands more children were separated from their parents than previously reported and that the government didn’t know how many there were because they weren’t keeping track of them. This is a stunning outrage. On top of it, Nielsen and Azar have refused to testify before Congress. They must be compelled to, immediately, by subpoena. If they still refuse, they must be jailed and held until they change their minds. Return ALL of the children, NOW.
Begin the Process of Impeachment NOW
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [Representative Huffman / Thompson] to insist that the House of Representatives begin the process of impeaching Donald Trump.
Donald Trump has clearly and flagrantly failed to uphold his oath of office. He violates it nearly every day. Our Founders specified a remedy for removing unfit presidents and the words “Special Counsel” are to be found nowhere in it. There is no time to lose.
To quote Yoni Applebaum: “It is absurd to suggest that the Constitution would delineate a mechanism too potent to ever actually be employed. Impeachment, in fact, is a vital protection against the dangers a president like Trump poses. And, crucially, many of its benefits—to the political health of the country, to the stability of the constitutional system—accrue irrespective of its ultimate result. Impeachment is a process, not an outcome, a rule-bound procedure for investigating a president, considering evidence, formulating charges, and deciding whether to continue on to trial.”
It is cowardly. reckless, and irresponsible for the House to wait to be saved by Mueller or anyone else. This is your responsibility as my elected Representative. The House must begin impeachment proceedings NOW.
Support the Green New Deal
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [Representative Huffman / Thompson] to publicly support the Green New Deal.
Global warming is the gravest threat we face and the Green New Deal is finally catalyzing discussion and planning for an aggressive and just path forward:
Rapid decarbonization of our economy
achieved through public investment which includes a jobs guarantee
and ensures a just transition
In addition, supporters should renounce any and all donations from fossil fuel companies. I intend to hold the Representative accountable for refusing to take such donations and for vocally supporting the Green New Deal.
