Nancy Pelosi is now using the same talking points as Mitt Romney: that the American people “aren’t there yet” for impeachment. This is an abdication of her duty to decide whether Trump has committed impeachable offenses (hint: he has, many times over) and to then hold him accountable using the sole means the Constitution has provided.

Despite a blue wave driven by those who want to counter Trump, she and other House leaders are failing to lead – so it’s up to us to demand that they do. We’re asking all Indivisible members to call several times this week and ask that the House begin impeachment hearings now and that they push aggressively in all other hearings as well, instead of maintaining their current snail’s pace.

If the rule of law isn’t enforced, it will cease to exist – and that can’t wait until the next election.

Begin Impeachment Hearings NOW!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to insist that the House of Representatives begin impeachment hearings now.

Speaker Pelosi, Chairman Nadler and others are moving slowly and timidly, afraid to admit that Trump has committed many impeachable offenses and scared to do anything about it. This isn’t why we worked so hard to flip the House – we want and need leaders who will stand up for our country and the rule of law, who will stand up to Trump. If they don’t, Trump will make sure that the rule of law will cease to exist. And he’ll do it before the next election.

I’m asking my [Representative/Senator] to support beginning impeachment hearings NOW.

No War with Iran!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to co-sponsor [H.R.2454 / S.1039] to explicitly deny Trump the authority to start a war with Iran and also to issue a public statement urging diplomacy, not war.

Trump has behaved aggressively towards Iran from the beginning, violating our nuclear deal with them and appointing trigger-happy hawk John Bolton National Security Advisor. Now Bolton is escalating tensions and preparing for a dangerous, unnecessary war. They must be stopped.

Will my [MoC] act now? I will be watching closely.

[Feinstein]: Co-Sponsor the Green New Deal!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Senator Feinstein to drop her effort to craft an alternative to the Green New Deal and embrace the Green New Deal itself.

Per David Roberts: “[Democrats] could stick together and show Republicans, and the public, that there is a new, stronger consensus behind reducing emissions. Or they could demonstrate that the party remains divided, weak, and hesitant — and that the GOP has plenty of room to continue cynically slow-walking the issue.”

The Senator’s refusal to support the broad outlines that the Green New Deal offers chooses the latter alternative and is misguided. In chasing an illusive and weak compromise, it squanders the activist energy and bold initiative necessary for solve this most critical problem. The Senator has written that she’d prefer to focus exclusively on climate change, but that is also misguided: addressing climate change will require massive and rapid changes to our infrastructure and society.

We cannot build the political will for this kind of rapid and comprehensive change without also addressing the jobs that will be needed and those that will be lost, the healthcare that is often tied to those jobs, and the implications for communities most effected by the effects of climate change. The Green New Deal recognized that climate change is a systemic problem. We must address the system to mitigate it.

I urge the Senator to drop her hesitation and to support the Green New Deal.

Defund Hate

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Representative [Huffman/Thompson] to reject the White House’s supplemental budget request for the Department of Homeland Security.

ICE and CBP have a long track record of abuse and death, mismanagement of funds, and a culture of violence. My tax dollars should not be spent to detain, deport, or terrorize immigrant communities.

I’m asking my Representative to urge our party’s leadership to reject the White House supplemental budget request.

Vote “NO” on SB 386 to Protect California’s Clean Energy Future

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Senator Dodd to vote NO on Senate Bill 386 to protect California’s Clean Energy Future.

SB 386 would for the first time include large hydroelectric plants as part of the state’s renewable energy portfolio standard (“RPS”), thereby allowing utilities to reduce the need to add renewable, carbon-free energy sources to our power grid. We’re facing a climate crisis that threatens our state and our species. The state RPS is a critical part of our plan to move to 100% clean energy by 2045. It must not be weakened by SB 386. Please, Senator Dodd, vote NO.

Eliminate Plastic Pollution and Waste

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the Senator] to support Senate Bill 54, to illuminate plastic pollution and waste.

Single-use products—typically plastic packaging – are overflowing our landfills, fouling our oceans and streets, and burdening the environment. Current disposal and recycling policies cannot resolve these problems, and California can no longer afford to wait for a resolution.

Senate Bill 54 requires reduction, composting or recycling of 75 percent of single-use packaging by 2030. It’s a goal we can and must achieve in California. I’m asking the Senator to vote “YES” on SB 54.

Vote “YES” on AB 857 to support public banking.

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m a constituent from zip code _____ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Assemblymember __________ (find above⬆︎) to vote YES for Public Banking Bill AB 857.

After passing multiple committees and countering well-funded lobbyists trying to sink our bill, California now has the opportunity to create a real solution to Wall Street with public banks that will strengthen our local economies and meet the needs of our local communities. AB 857 is slated for a full-floor vote at the end of May. Please vote YES!
