Protect the DREAMers

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to insist that [the MoC] continue to push for a legislative solution for the DREAMers that doesn’t sell out their families.

President Obama tried for years to get Congress to enact legislation to protect the DREAMers – the over 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. Republicans in Congress repeatedly refused and finally, in 2012, Obama established the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to protect them. Last September President* Trump announced that he was ending the program effective March 5th – holding the DREAMers hostage – and since then Republicans have continued to refuse to look for a solution to the DREAMers’ plight. The biggest stumbling block is the House, where Paul Ryan refuses to bring legislation to the floor unless a majority of Republicans – not of House members – support it. There is enough bipartisan support to pass a bill, but Ryan’s refusal effectively kills action on such a bill. This week Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke for eight hours in the House – the longest floor speech in House history – demanding that Ryan allow a vote.

Will [the MoC] continue to push for legislation that protects the DREAMers without trading it for the racist policies the administration would like to see enacted?

Call Out the Big Lie. And Release the Schiff Memo

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to demand that [the MoC] call out use of the Big Lie – Trump and the Republicans’ use of outrageous falsehoods to sway and confuse the populace.

This week the Big Lie continued to be the Nunes fabrication alleging bias on the part of the FBI. The story, pushed by Russian cyberwarfare to prominence and amplified by the right-wing propaganda machine, continued to be in the news as Trump refused to release the Democrats’ counter-memo intended to provide the truth. To a large extent, our media still doesn’t know how to handle the Big Lie, instead treating it as an opinion or point of view. This is misleading:  the point of a Big Lie is to deliberately deceive, misdirect and confuse. It’s a conscious tactic and a dangerous one. It must be named and the truth told instead.

So:  will [the MoC] make clear, public statements accusing Nunes, Trump and others of concocting a deliberate and outrageous lie? And will [the MoC] also state clearly:  Russian meddling in the 2016 election on Trump’s behalf is a proven fact. There is ample evidence of collusion with Russia on the part of Trump’s campaign. When the FBI has shown bias, it has been in favor of Trump.

Protect Our Voting Systems

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that [the MoC] work to protect our voting systems from attack in this year’s elections.

This past week the U.S. official in charge of protecting American elections from hacking said the Russians successfully penetrated the voter registration rolls of several U.S. states prior to the 2016 presidential election. We know also from the Reality Winner leak that other attempts were made. And we know that Russia is still working to undermine this year’s election. Our nation is under attack:  we must have free and fair elections this year to remove the cancer of Republican autocracy.

Will [the MoC] do everything in their power to protect our voting systems from attack?

Demand Putin’s Puppet Do His Job

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that [the MoC] issue a public statement demanding that President* Trump carry out the legislation that Congress overwhelmingly passed last summer imposing sanctions on Russia for interfering on Trump’s behalf in the 2016 election.

The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act passed Congress 517-5 last summer. The intent was clear:  to force Trump to punish Russia for helping to elect him. Recently he refused to carry out the sanctions required by the law. This is an abrogation of his duty and one more clear admission of his guilt and submission to the will of Vladimir Putin.

Will [the MoC] state publicly that Trump is acting as Putin’s puppet while ignoring his duties to carry out the instructions of Congress?

Call Out the Tax Scam

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that [the MoC] continue to make the case that the Republican Tax Scam passed last December is a con:  a give-away to the indolent rich while buying off working Americans with small and expiring tax cuts – all while exploding the deficit, imposing a burden on our future.

Republicans hope that the few dollars constituents will receive from the tax scam will blind them to the fact that thousands upon thousands of dollars are going to the super-rich, while the deficit explodes. Republicans also hope that the blindness will extend to the fall elections. They are being helped by corporations seeking to curry favor with the administration by giving out bonuses – which conveniently won’t cost them as much as actually giving their employees raises. This PR campaign must be countered. Will the MoC call out the con and tell the truth?

Support Zero Emission Vehicles for California!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask that the Assembly Member support AB 1745 with a “yes” vote when it comes before the Transportation Committee.

Californians want clear air and to curb global warming. Polls show that we’re ready for legislation that promotes Zero Emission Vehicles – in fact even sooner than 2040.

Will Assembly Member Aguilar-Curry vote “yes” for AB 1745?
