Phone Scripts 2.5-7.2018: Defend FBI & Rule of Law/Lay Groundwork for Impeachment + More

We are focused on the many ways the Republican President has failed.

Tell our Members of Congress: Support FBI neutrality (and encourage it!); make the case for Impeachment; pass legislation that protects DREAMers. While you are at it, remember the 8th of February is the deadline for passing the budget OR a continuing resolution. And remind our Senators and Congressmen that compromise does not mean our values lose.

Defend the FBI and the Rule of Law

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to defend the FBI and the rule of law against the unprecedented and dangerous attacks by Devin Nunes and President Trump.

For weeks the Republicans and their “state media” of Fox News, et al., had pushed propaganda about a Nunes memo that they claimed would show that investigation into Trump/Russia ties was tainted. When the memo was finally released, against the wishes of the FBI and DOJ, it proved nothing of the sort. The conspiracy theory it pushed was, typical of Trump, shown to be a lie. The memo itself, typical of Nunes, was a weak and self-sabotaging piece of work. But releasing it at all did serious damage to the integrity of the House Intelligence Committee, which Nunes heads, and to the relationship between Congress and the White House, on one side, and law enforcement on the other. The Republicans had joined Trump to further shred our republic. This is reckless and, since it supports the aims of Russia, borderline treasonous. It must be called out for the betrayal that it is.

Will [the MoC] continue to forthrightly blame the GOP and Trump for this attack on our nation?

Lay the Groundwork for Impeachment

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to continue to lay the groundwork for impeachment.

The [MoC] knows that impeachment is currently impossible, given Republican control of the House and their utter abdication of any responsibility for upholding their oaths of office. But the [MoC] surely also knows that this President is a clear and present danger to our country, doing enormous damage to it every day. He is corrupt, refuses to carry out his duties and appears to be in thrall to Russia, a hostile foreign power. The case must continue to be made, day by day and week by week, that his behavior is unacceptable and that he is unfit for office.

Please know that I will be looking, every week, for comments from [the MoC] that build the case for impeachment.

Continue to Stand Strong for the DREAMers

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to continue to stand strong for the DREAMers.

The government again faces the need to approve yet another Continuing Resolution this week to stay funded. The fact that Republicans haven’t put a real budget in place weakens our government, injecting uncertainty into every department. The fact that Trump revoked the DACA program in order to hold the DREAMers hostage in negotiations makes the stakes even higher. Trump has actively torpedoed good-faith efforts to rescue the DREAMers and his counter-offer is a non-starter, a white supremacist wish-list. While we can’t know the exact shape of a reasonable deal, I’m asking [the MoC] to stand firm and to find a solution that protects the DREAMers in exchange for reasonable (and hopefully reversible) demands. Thank you for standing strong!

Fund Community Health Centers

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to push strenuously for the refunding of Community Health Centers.

Republicans, in their neglect of the basic functioning of government, let funding for both the Children’s Health Insurance Program (“CHIP”) and Community Health Centers lapse. While CHIP was finally funded with the last Continuing Resolution, the Community Health Centers are still languishing. Republicans are claiming to have a problem with how to pay for the Centers, despite the fact that they passed a tax scam that will cost the government trillions over the next decade. Enough with the hypocrisy. The Centers must be funded with this next CR.

Will [the MoC] insist that funding for the Community Health Centers be included in this week’s Continuing Resolution?

Condemn Trump’s Tariffs

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to condemn the trade tariffs imposed by President Trump.

Trump’s tariffs, on washing machines and solar panels, will harm the American economy and, especially regarding solar energy, set our competitiveness back. The solar industry is among America’s fastest-growing and it is desperately needed to combat global warming. Tens of thousands of jobs will be lost and we’ll fall even further behind in the race to save our species from extinction. Plus, these tariffs may be just the tip of a very damaging iceberg of punitive tariffs. This is inexcusable.

Will [the MoC] strongly condemn the Trump tariffs?
