Continue to make a difference! Call our Members of Congress and our State Senator today. Tell them to reject the Republican Tax Scam extension and a work requirement for food. Let our Senators hear what you think about Mike Pompeo (for Secretary of State) and Gina Haspel (for CIA director). And make certain State Senator Dodd gets your thanks for his efforts to create California’s net neutrality regulations.
NO Extension of the Republican Tax Scam
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to reject all Republican attempts to extend their tax scam passed in December.
The American public appears to be onto the scam the Republicans tried to pull off in December, when they gave away the store to the super-rich and tried to buy off working Americans with a slight tax decrease. They’re not buying the ruse. So now the Republicans want to extend their tax madness by making the cuts for ordinary folk permanent, too. It’s a cynical ploy, aimed at helping their election prospects, not at helping people. And it will backfire, with the Republicans using it to savage protections like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Don’t fall for it. OPPOSE it.
NO on the Disastrous Farm Bill
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to oppose the Republican Farm Bill, currently making its way through the House. It’s a disaster.
The Farm Bill would not only impose work requirements on SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps), creating a bureaucratic nightmare and forcing hungry people to lose coverage. It would also loosen restrictions on pesticides, a health nightmare, even making it illegal for local governments to pass their own laws regarding pesticide use. Like everything the Republicans are now doing, this is a give-away to industry players at the expense of American lives. It must be stopped.
Will the [MoC] vehemently oppose the Farm Bill?
Thank You for Your Resolution Calling on Scott Pruitt to Resign
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank [the MoC] for [his/her] signing the resolution demanding Scott Pruitt’s resignation.
It takes serious work to stand out for corruption in this administration, but Scott Pruitt, through his recklessness, hubris and paranoia has done it. He is a living stain on the notion of public service. He should have been gone weeks ago, as revelation after revelation came to light. The resolution was the right thing to do. Now, please keep up the pressure. Thank you!
NO on Mike Pompeo
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank the Senator for her opposition to Mike Pompeo’s nomination as Secretary of State.
Pompeo is on the cusp of earning the rare distinction of failing to receive a recommendation from the Senate Foreign Relations committee. His nomination may still succeed, due to the abysmal judgement of Heidi Heitkamp, but it must nevertheless be opposed, for he is the wrong man for the job. A hawk and a sycophant, Pompeo will exacerbate Trump’s weaknesses of aggressiveness and impulsiveness. Thank you for rejecting his nomination.
NO on Gina Haspel
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to oppose the nomination of Gina Haspel as Director of the CIA.
The CIA is currently trying, through selectively released memos, to rehabilitate Haspel’s history as a war criminal, writing directives ordering torture, overseeing torture sites and, finally, destroying the evidence of torture. The CIA would like us to believe that, since Haspel was “only following orders” in destroying the evidence, she’s not to blame. To which we reply: Remember Nuremburg. Haspel’s nomination must be rejected.
Thank You for Supporting Net Neutrality
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank Senator Dodd for co-authoring SB-822, the Net Neutrality bill.
Ajit Pai’s tenure at the FCC has been marked by his selling out consumers in order to line the coffers of the major telecoms. Nothing has been more egregious than his gutting of net neutrality. Thank you for fighting back with a bill that would not only preserve net neutrality, but extend it beyond previous federal restrictions, here in California.
