We’re calling to urge our Members of Congress to oppose the Farm Bill. And our Senators, who get to make decisions about leadership, should vote NO on Gina Haspel and Wendy Vitter. And of course, all Members of Congress ought to protect the work Robert Mueller’s team are doing for us.
OPPOSE the Farm Bill
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to oppose the Republican Farm Bill, currently making its way through the House. It’s a disaster.
It’s one thing to help farmers. It’s another thing entirely to wage war on public health. The Farm Bill would not only impose work requirements on SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps), creating a bureaucratic nightmare and forcing hungry people to lose coverage. It would also loosen restrictions on pesticides, even making it illegal for local governments to pass their own laws regarding pesticide use. This is a give-away to industry players at the expense of American lives. It must be opposed.
NO more Republican Tax Scams
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to reject all Republican attempts to extend the tax scam they passed in December.
The American public appears to be onto the con the Republicans tried to pull off in December, when they gave away the store to the super-rich and tried to buy off working Americans with a slight tax decrease. Americans aren’t buying the ruse. So now the Republicans want to extend their tax madness by making the cuts for ordinary folk permanent, too. It’s a cynical ploy, aimed at helping their election prospects, not at helping people. And it will backfire, when the Republicans use as an excuse to savage protections like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Don’t fall for it. OPPOSE it.
Scott Pruitt Must Go
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to keep up the pressure on Scott Pruitt, the head of the EPA, who is scandal-ridden and unfit to serve.
Where to begin? When one’s seeing articles trying to make sense of all of the scandals facing Scott Pruitt, you know he’s way, way over the line. However, mimicking Trump, Pruitt is unrepentant and smug. His tenure is a stain on our country and on decency in government. Congressional Democrats have already published a letter calling for his resignation, for which I thank you. Please keep up the pressure, condemning him at every turn. His behavior is vile and he needs to go.
No, You Don’t All Do It
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to make it clear that, while Mick Mulvaney wants everyone to know that “pay to play” is how to work with Republicans, that’s not how Democrats govern.
Mulvany this past week couldn’t have been any clearer: as a Congressman he wouldn’t talk to lobbyists who weren’t greasing his palm. He told the anecdote to lobbyists as a clear instruction for how to do business with the ruling Republican Party. The danger is that the public will think, “They all do it.” Please speak up and make it clear that YOU DON’T. Yes, there is a corrupt political party in America. There just aren’t two.
NO on Gina Haspel
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to vote NO on the nomination of Gina Haspel as Director of the CIA.
By all means, use her hearing to make more information available about the use of torture during the Bush administration. But then, please reject Gina Haspel’s nomination. She sent cables authorizing torture. She oversaw a black site that conducted torture. She destroyed the evidence of torture. These are all war crimes. “I was just doing my job” can never be an excuse for committing them. Not in the United States. Not now. Not ever.
Thanks for Moving the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act Forward
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank the Senator for helping to get the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act out of committee. Now let’s get a floor vote for it!
Finally, a critical number of Republicans were willing to help move the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, protecting the Mueller investigation, forward and out of the Judicial Committee. McConnell has said he won’t bring it to the floor for a vote. As with nearly everything he does, this is unconscionable. Please push for a vote! Mueller must be protected.
NO on Wendy Vitter
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to vote NO on the nomination of Wendy Vitter to the Federal Bench.
Vitter made headlines when she refused to answer whether or not she agreed with the ruling in Brown v Board of Education. Let’s be clear: the last thing we need is a segregationist judge on the bench anywhere. As if this weren’t enough, she’s clearly against a woman’s right to choose. Please, vote NO.
Keep Up the Pressure on the Nomination of Thomas Homan to Head ICE
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to thank the Senator for her demand that the DHS hand over documentation on Thomas Homan, acting head of ICE, and that they quit stalling on his nomination.
It appears that the White House is withholding information so that they can keep Homan in his role without having to have him answering questions under oath. This is just wrong. Thank you for putting pressure on them!
Protest the Firing of Chaplain Conroy
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Representatave [Huffman / Thompson] to protest the firing of House Chaplain Reverend Patrick Conroy.
Conroy is the first House chaplain in history to be fired. While no reason was given for his dismissal, he told reporters last December that he had been warned not to be “political” when he preached mercy and charity during the time that the soak-the-poor GOP tax bill was being rushed through Congress. While we’re grateful to Paul Ryan for his honest clarity about the Republican’s rejection of Christian values, it was plain wrong to fire Rev. Conroy. Please protest it!
