Reunite them ALL!

Hello, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from <city, zip> and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to continue to demand that the Trump regime reunite ALL of the remaining migrant children ripped from their parents NOW.

Hundreds of children STILL haven’t been reunited with their parents. The government has no plan, and still hopes others - like the ACLU - will pay the cost of reunification. The damage to the children will be irreparable. This is unacceptable. This is not our country.

Background:

Russia Owns Trump

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to continue to tell the public:  The President is not above the law.

After a series of childish lies, the current president has acknowledged that his campaign tried to accept stolen information from the Russian government’s spies - information that they thought would be damning to Sec. Clinton. This is collusion. Agreeing to commit a crime is, actually, a crime. And it matters.

Please continue to boldly reject the current president’s premise that he can lie his way out of this.

Background:

A Free Press Makes America Strong

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to daily call out the many ways in which a free press is essential to our democracy.

The current president‘s attacks on the press are a sign of his despotism and desperation. His incitement may lead to more violence against reporters and more distrust of the truth. It’s vital that [the MoC] call them out for what they are:  vicious, anti-American lies and slander.

And his supporters think he should be able to control the press - which is the very opposite of what the Constitution embraces.

He’s putting our very democracy at risk. Please speak up for the value of the free press in a free society.

Plastic guns and our shared safety

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [the MoC] to demand a solution to 3D printing of guns - and to call on the Congress to take a rational position.

First Amendment rights allow an individual to public plans for how to enrich uranium and how to build bombs. The tools to do either are legally accessible. But someone who builds a bomb and uses it to blow up a police station is a criminal. Someone who enriches uranium and uses it to build a bomb is a criminal.

And those same First Amendment rights may allow for the publication of plans to use a 3D printer to make plastic guns. Yet someone who prints a gun on a 3D printer can walk through security with the gun, use the gun without a criminal background check, and carry the gun without a permit and without the ATF able to trace it if it is used in a criminal act.

Congress right now ought to consider Congressman Thompson’s bill to ban publication of the plans. But that isn’t enough. Will [the MoC] stand up for our shared safety? Will [the MoC] work with others on Congress to ensure that building untraceable plastic guns and owning untraceable and undetectable plastic guns is a crime?

Thank You for Fighting for Our Emissions Standards!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to support the Senator’s Resolution to Protect National Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards.

Global warming is the most dangerous threat facing humankind today. We’re seeing its signs everywhere we look and we’re running out of time. Trump’s effort to attack our fuel economy standards is, in this light, insane. Thank you for fighting for our planet and our lives!

Kavanaugh Won’t Protect Our Democracy

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Senator to find all the evidence to prove what is already apparent:  Brett Kavanaugh won’t protect our democracy from Trump and the Russian attack that put him in power.

Even from what’s already publicly available, it looks like Kavanaugh’s view of the presidency is that the office places the holder above the law. That would be a dangerous view at any time, with Trump it may amount to a permanent surrender to Vladimir Putin. I’m imploring the Senator to find every scrap of evidence to prove that Kavanaugh would be a clear danger to democracy, then use it to sink him.

Fight for Our Emissions Standards!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [Representative Huffman/Thompson] to support our California Senators’ Resolution to Protect National Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards.

Global warming is the most dangerous threat facing humankind today. We’re seeing its signs everywhere we look and we’re running out of time. Trump’s effort to attack our fuel economy standards is, in this light, insane. Please:  fight for our planet and our lives!

NO on SBs 1088 & 901

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the [Assemblymember/Senator] to oppose SBs 1088 & 901, which would give PG&E a free pass.

PG&E burned down our homes through their negligence. They don’t deserve to be protected and they don’t deserve to be let off the hook. If [the Assemblyperson/Senator] can’t see that, they don’t deserve to represent me. Period.

Pass a Sonoma Resolution to Protect National Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Board of Supervisors to echo the work of our fine Senators and pass a Resolution to Protect National Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards.

Climate change is beginning to wreak devastation:  just look at its impact on the severity of fire danger. The Trump administration is not only ignoring the danger but making it worse by attacking our fuel economy standards, including those set by the State of California. This is wrong, wrong, wrong. Our Senators have drafted a resolution to protect our standards. Will the Board follow their lead and make Sonomans proud?

Fully Fund the Human Rights Commission

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the Board of Supervisors to immediately restore the staff support, physical space and phone which the Commission on Human Rights needs to do their work protecting the rights of residents of Sonoma County.

The Board recently withdrew funds for staff support (for only twelve hours a week) and even the use of a room and phone used to do their work of the Commission on Human Rights. Human rights are under attack daily by the Trump regime. The last thing we need in Sonoma County is to withdraw support for their protection at this critical time. Please restore the funds immediately!

Background (from CHR vice chair Dmitra Smith):

"The Board of Supervisors recently approved a budget which ended staff support for the Commission on Human Rights (as well as our sister Commission on the Status of Women). We lobbied our supervisors in vain. We have just received word that we will no longer be able to hold meetings in the PRMD hearing room but have been moved to the HR Training Center. I'm not going to speculate on the reasons for this, but as I hear that funds are tight post fires, I'm aware that $4 million dollars was spent on fighting for immunity for the deputy who killed Andy Lopez, so it's more about priorities from my view.

"In the past few years, I and many others have worked diligently to establish the Commission on Human Rights as a beacon of light within the county government system. A place where truly marginalized voices can be amplified and uplifted. Where justice, intersectionality and truth can grow and flourish. We have published reports on racism in schools, advocated for our unhoused neighbors, fought back against hate crimes, supported our immigrant, LGBTQ+, Disability communities, and so much more, not to mention mentoring over 100 Sonoma County youth in the Junior Commission on Human Rights.

"I am told that the CAO office will advise the supervisors on how the commission will function. I don't know any of those people and they certainly don't understand what I do as the Vice Chair. I already work hundreds of hours per year for free and I am honored to do so, but we can not do it without adequate support and an appropriate venue for our monthly public meetings.

"If you believe in the importance of having a fully functioning Commission on Human Rights and Commission on the Status of Women, I URGE you to contact your supervisors and express your concern. We still have not gotten permission from the BOS to fundraise so that we can get this PSA I directed into theaters. Now we'll need to fundraise to function. I will not go quietly into the night with this one. I have worked too hard and too long these past six years. The people of Sonoma County deserve much better. This is not the time in our nation, state or county to diminish the work of the Commission on Human Rights.”
