What Are They Prepared to Do?
This past week has been consumed with the unfolding news that Trump attempted multiple times in phone calls to extort the new President of Ukraine, using the power of the United States of America, to harm Joe Biden’s campaign.
It began with the news that a whistleblower’s report, which legally must be given to Congress, was being kept back by the recently-appointed acting Director of National Intelligence in concert with the Department of Justice. That report, which apparently details Trump’s abuse of office, is still being withheld. And yet both Trump and Giuliani have as much as admitted to the crime. They are essentially saying: So what? What are you going to do about it?
This is precisely what Trump did to illegally win the 2016 election: collude with a foreign power to attack our electoral process. Only this time he’s doing it by threatening them with the powers invested in him by his office. This is clearly and unambiguously “high crimes and misdemeanors” and it’s being done in the open.
It is also the unmistakable result of House Democrats refusing to act upon similar crimes when the Mueller Report was released. To those who think that Senate acquittal would “embolden” Trump, please explain how he could possibly act any more emboldened than he is right now? And how the danger to our Republic could possibly be any greater? House Democrats, through their refusal to act, have become complicit in Trump’s crimes. That must stop now.
There’s just one thing we’re asking you to do this week, which is to call both Senators and your Representative to demand a response. What are they prepared to do? If their answer isn’t “impeachment”, we invite you to let them have it. We’re out of time for dithering and hiding. The fate of our nation hangs in the balance. Please call!
Please join us this week in making calls to our Senators and Representative beginning on Monday, using our scripts below. Hate the phone? Resistbot (resist.bot) is your friend.
What Are You Prepared to Do?
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. The President has engaged in a plot to extort the Ukraine government in order to damage his political rivals and aid in his re-election. What is [the MoC] prepared to do about this?
[If the answer isn’t “support impeachment”, then:]
That’s not sufficient. Trump is repeating his crime of interfering in our elections to illegally win reelection. Only now he’s using the immense power of his office to do it. He must be opposed now, or we won’t have a free and fair election in 2020 and his absolute power will be confirmed and entrenched, perhaps for good. I must see [the MoC] embrace impeachment now. Anything less makes Article II, section 4 of the Constitution (impeachment) meaningless and is a dereliction of [her/his] Constitutional duty.
[If the answer is “impeachment”, then:]
Thank you! Will [the MoC] make a strong public statement today urging Nancy Pelosi to move on impeachment immediately?
