Call Senator Feinstein:
'Hi, my name is ______ and I'm calling from [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.
I am calling to express my strong objection to the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch as the next Supreme Court Justice. I request that Senator Feinstein reject this appointment and filibuster the nomination, if called for by Senator Schumer. Judge Gorsuch’s record of dissenting opinions in key reproductive rights cases like the recent Hobby Lobby decision and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey clearly show a willingness to remove constitutional protections around abortion and access to contraception. His record of legal interpretations is dangerous, and it indicates that he would remove many hard-won reproductive rights. I reject his appointment and urge Senator Feinstein to stand up for women’s rights by rejecting his appointment and filibustering his nomination. I will view any support of Gorsuch by Senator Feinstein as a vote against women’s reproductive rights. Thank you.'
Indivisible Sonoma County opposes the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. We respectfully urge Senator Feinstein to use every procedure available to her, including the filibuster if called for by Minority Leader Schumer, to prevent Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation.
Our members have not forgotten the history leading up to Judge Gorsuch’s nomination. One year ago, President Obama nominated Merrick Garland, a centrist judge who is universally admired, to fill this vacancy. The Republican-controlled Senate wholly abdicated its constitutional duty to advise and consent on Judge Garland’s nomination. We believe this history alone justifies opposing Judge Gorsuch.
Even if we ignore this background, Judge Gorsuch’s nomination should be rejected because his record demonstrates that he poses a threat to values that Californians hold dear. Indivisible Sonoma County wishes to highlight two aspects of his record that are of particular concern to us.
Reproductive Rights. Judge Gorsuch’s rulings devalue the right of women to control their reproductive decisions. He has taken extreme positions in cases regarding the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate. Judge Gorsuch sided with a closely held corporation and its owners against women who need contraceptive coverage. See Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. v. Sebelius, 723 F.3d 1114 (10th Cir. 2013). And he indicated that a religious nonprofit should not even be required to sign a form so that its employees could receive contraceptive coverage. See Little Sisters of the Poor v. Burwell, 799 F.3d 1315 (10th Cir. 2015).
'Hi, my name is ______ and I'm a constituent from [CITY, ZIP]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.
I’d like to thank Senator Harris for her vocal support of universal health care, yet I remain very concerned about the Trump administration’s attempt to repeal and replace the ACA and replace it with the unacceptable AHCA. We should not return to the time when a family was an illness away from bankruptcy, and taxpayers had to pay $75 to $125 BILLION to cover the costs of care for the uninsured. Please vote NO on repealing the ACA/Obamacare without plans for a simultaneous replacement. I urge Senator Harris to continue to use everything in her power to ensure the ACA remains intact and I encourage her to shift the conversation towards single-payer. Thank you.'
Bonus: Thank the Senator for her recent remarks on the abysmal Republican budget!
