Phone Scripts for 4.24.2017

Congress is back in session. Republicans want to act fast -- with their trademark lack of transparency -- because Friday, April 28 is the deadline to pass a budget or the government shuts down. Hence, we republish our budget scripts while adding some great new scripts regarding immigration. We also include a link to an Indivisible Guide resource, which you can customize, on Defending the Environment.  Call often, call with passion -- and make your voice heard.

Budget:

Hello, my name is ______ and I'm a constituent from [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. The Republican President’s new budget cuts funding for many institutions and programs that American citizens rely on, all for an amped up defense budget. I expect Senator [Feinstein or Harris] to vote NO on this budget and use every tool possible to avoid irreversible damage to critical federal agencies and federally funded programs.  Thank you.

Background: The current federal budget is operating on a continuing resolution, which expires on April 28. Members of the House and Senate Appropriations committees intend to have a bill ready the week of April 24, just days before the current stopgap funding for federal agencies is set to expire. The Republican president has submitted a controversial emergency request for $30 billion is extra funding for defense and $3 billion additional for border security (including $1.5 billion for his proposed wall.  He plans to offset these by reducing domestic program budgets by $18 billion.

Dreamers and ICE:

Hi, my name is ______ and I'm calling from [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. The Republican President has assured ‘Dreamers’ - those people who arrived in the US as undocumented babies and children - that the increasing pressure to deport all undocumented residents will not target them.  Of course, that means that ICE has already begun to deport ‘Dreamers.’  I'm calling to ask [Senator Feinstein or Harris] what she will do right now to protect ‘Dreamers’ and to help ensure a path to citizenship for those undocumented residents who remain positive, committed, law-abiding members of their communities?

Call Congressman Thompson (District 5) or Congressman Huffman (District 2)

*Santa Rosa Phone (707) 542-7182

*Napa Office Phone (707)226-9898

*Vallejo Office Phone (707) 645-1888

The Republican President has assured ‘Dreamers’ - those people who arrived in the US as undocumented babies and children - that the increasing pressure to deport all undocumented residents will not target them.  Of course, that means that ICE has already begun to deport ‘Dreamers.’  ICE is separating husbands from wives, fathers and mothers from their children.  I'm calling to ask [Representative Thompson or Huffman] what he will do right now to protect ‘Dreamers’ and to help ensure a path to citizenship for those undocumented residents who remain positive, committed, law-abiding members of their communities?
