Phone Scripts 5.01.2017

Our scripts thank our MoC's for their strong statements on the first 100 days, and for most aspects of the bi-partisan compromise announced Sunday night to keep the government open. We are VERY pleased the ACA has stayed in place but we are devastated by the constant assault on the judiciary, immigrants and the environment. We encourage you to make these scripts your own.

Government Shutdown Averted

Hi, my name is ______ and I'm calling from [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Now that the first 100 days of the current Republican administration has passed, I’m happy that the government will stay open, for now, and that the Republican President has not received funding for a border wall. I’m pleased that the ACA remains in place. And I’m devastated by the constant assault on the environment and the independent judiciary. I urge [Senator Feinstein or Harris] to continue to speak out boldly, and to challenge the Republican President's policies and statements as needed.

Save National Monuments

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m calling from [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  The Republican President has directed the Department of the Interior to determine whether any lands, previously protected as National Monuments, should be removed from this protection. The list includes Berryessa Snow Mountain and the Giant Sequoia in central California. Removing these lands from protection will open them to commercial exploitation. Thank you, [Senator Feinstein or Harris] for speaking out on this plan that intends to destroy fragile ecosystems and historic sites.

For Being a Voice of Sanity

Hello, my name is _____ and I live in [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I’m calling in appreciation of Senator Feinstein’s comprehensive account of the Republican President’s first 100 days.  We all know that it takes an effective leader and a willing Congress to govern.  The Republican President’s first months have been marked by missteps and inept leadership.  Senator Feinstein’s understanding of the failures is matched, today, by her willingness to call such failures out. Thank you for being a voice of sanity.

NO on the market-deregulating Financial CHOICE Act (H.R. 10)

Hi, my name is ______ and I'm calling from [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Today is markup for H.R. 10, the Republican’s Financial Choice bill that would repeal the most important aspects of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and put America on the road to another financial crisis. To date over 130 groups have submitted letters opposing this ‘Wrong Choice’ including CalSTRS which provides retirement benefits for California’s public school teachers and is the largest educator-only pension fund in the world. Thank you for listening.

First 100 days remarks

Hello, my name is _____ and I live in [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I’m calling to thank Representative Thompson for his positive stand on many of the disastrous policy changes initiated by the Republican President. In addition to his defense of the Affordable Care Act, he has been a voice of reason on gun regulations. As one of their accomplishments in the first 100 days, the Republican Administration touts that they allow people with severe mental illnesses to make decisions to purchase a firearm. Those of us who have lost loved ones to gun violence are appalled, and that Representative Thompson for being a voice of sanity in Washington.

Thank Jared Huffman for ‘Keep it in the Ground’ bill.

Hi, my name is _____ and I’m calling from [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I am calling to thank Representative Huffman for his leadership on environmental issues, and for introducing a new bill to “Keep it in the Ground.”  Thousands of citizens across the country are marching to call for a clean energy future and responsible science-based action on climate change.  I join those thousands in looking to our congressional leaders to fight to protect the planet for future generations.  Please know we are watching, and today I am applauding! Thank you.
