Phone Scripts 5.15.2017

We have several new and dynamic scripts available below. Please use your own judgement in choosing the scripts that work for you. The new scripts primarily thank our Members of Congress for their steadfastness in the midst of a confusing and untenable situation in Washington D.C. -- and ask them to go further to ensure they defend our most basic democratic institutions and values.

Department of Justice Special Prosecutor appointment:

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m calling from [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Trump can’t be allowed to appoint his own investigator. By firing Comey, Donald Trump will now be able to appoint a new FBI Director to continue the investigation. And the new FBI directly would serve under Attorney General Sessions, who has said he would recuse himself from the Russia inquiry but seems not to have done so when firing Comey.  Senator[Feinstein/Harris] this presents an unacceptable conflict of interest. We must be certain that the person leading the investigation isn’t beholden to Donald Trump. In order to restore faith and confidence in our government and in the justice system, the investigation must be independent. Thank you

Russian Interference Hearings Option A:

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m calling from [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I wanted to tell you that I am grateful for your thoughtful approach to the increasingly difficult situation created by the President’s abrupt firing of the FBI Director, and his admission that the firing was due to the Russian investigation. This action invites accusations of obstruction of justice. I am counting on you, Senator [Feinstein/Harris] to hold the Republican Senators accountable, and to do as Senator Schumer suggests by withholding key Senate business until the majority leader calls a closed, classified all-senators briefing with the attorney general and the deputy attorney general, separately, at which they will be asked questions. Thank you.

Russian Interference Hearings Option B:

Hi, my name is _____ and I'm calling from [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. The independent, non-partisan investigation into the involvement of Russia in the recent presidential election has been led by James Comey, who was recently fired as FBI Director, by the President. The investigation is, therefore, at risk of being stalled until a new investigator is identified and appointed. Former Director Comey has agreed to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee - but only in open session. And an open session is what we need, in order to hear what Mr. Comey has learned during the course of his investigation. I expect you [Feinstein/Harris]  to speak up in committee, and from the floor, to ask the hard questions about this President’s continued disregard of our nation’s checks and balances. These open hearings may help us know if impeachment is warranted. Thank you.

Call Senator Feinstein:

*SF Office: (415) 393-0707
*DC Office: (202) 224-3841
*LA Office: (310) 914-7300
*San Diego Office: (619) 231-9712
*Fresno Office: (559) 485-7430

Save our Forests and Natural treasures:

Hi, my name is ______ and I’m calling from [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Trump has directed the Department of the Interior to determine whether any lands, previously protected as National Monuments, should be removed from this protection. The list includes Berryessa Snow Mountain and the Giant Sequoia in central California. Reducing the size of national monuments would benefit oil, gas, mining, logging and ranching because the federal government could grant more leases.

No prior president has ever reduced the size of a national monument. Thank you, Senator Feinstein for speaking out on this plan that intends to destroy fragile ecosystems and historic sites that should be the preserved legacy for future generations.

Call Senator Harris:

*SF Office: (415) 355-9041
*DC Office: (202) 224-3553
*Sacramento Office: (916) 448-2787
*LA Office: (213) 894-5000
*San Diego Office: (619) 239-3884

Common Sense reforms:

Hi, my name is _____ and I live in [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I recently read that Attorney General Sessions has directed the Department of Justice to pursue the most serious charges possible for every person arrested for drug possession.  Reviving the ‘war on drugs’ makes me furious. Drug addiction and substance abuse are medical issues, and the Attorney General wishes to continue treating them as criminal violations, while the Republican Congress wishes to eliminate funding for medical treatment.  I am calling to thank Senator Harris for her statements about Attorney General Sessions seeking to ‘turn back the clock’ and to encourage her to speak up, frequently and loudly, on this issues that disproportionately affects people of color.  I urge her to outline common sense sentence reforms and to address mental health and addiction issues as health care comes to the floor.

Accountability and impeachment:

Hi, my name is _____ and I live in [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Thank you for your unwavering position on holding the Republican President accountable which I fully support. Accountability requires a special prosecutor and freedom of the press. This weekend Harvard constitutional expert Laurence Tribe wrote in the NY Times: “The time has come for Congress to launch an impeachment investigation of President Trump for obstruction of justice. The remedy of impeachment was designed to create a last-resort mechanism for preserving our constitutional system.” I thank you, Congressman Huffman for your recent tweet about the need for Republicans to step up. Will you work with Republicans to call for hearings to find out President has committed an impeachable offense? We need to preserve our democracy and continue to demand accountability. Thank you!

Air safety:

Hi, my name is _____ and I live in [City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I’m calling because the Department of Homeland Security has approved a rule that could have serious and deadly impacts on air transportation.  By banning laptops from the cabin of aircraft, the DHS has inadvertently created a possible fire hazard for which airlines are unprepared.  Lithium Ion batteries, which power laptop and portable devices, are a significant fire risk, and have been known to overheat even while unused.  Placing multiple laptops in the baggage compartment is likely to result in an unseen and undetected fire for which aircraft and unprepared.  Until and unless aircraft are redesigned to have a fire-safe storage compartment, this rule is far more likely to result in accidents and death than we can calculate.  Representative Huffman, as you sit on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, what can you do to ensure air flight is safe under this rule?

Accountability and Investigations:

Hi, my name is _____ and I live in [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Thank you for your recent comment saying: “We need a special prosecutor to learn just how deep this rabbit hole goes and take action before they try these tactics again." Trump can’t be allowed to appoint his own investigator. By firing Comey, Donald Trump will now be able to appoint a new FBI Director to continue the investigation. And the new FBI directly would serve under Attorney General Sessions, who has said he would recuse himself from the Russia inquiry but seems not to have done so when firing Comey. This presents an unacceptable conflict of interest. We must be certain that the person leading the investigation isn’t beholden to Donald Trump.
