Hearing from James Comey

Hello, my name is      and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. This week, Former FBI Director Comey will be testifying in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee. That is, unless the Republican President tries to invoke executive privilege. I’m calling to urge Senator [Harris or Feinstein] to ensure that Mr. Comey’s testimony is unhindered and open. Please share this with the Senator. Thank you.

Ethic Waivers

Hello, my name is  and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Recently, Attorney General Sessions has been the subject of increased scrutiny because of several previously unacknowledged discussions he held with the Russian ambassador. At least twenty-two members of the administration have been given waivers from ethics requirements. Jared Kushner’s motives for meetings with Russian governmental employees are being questioned. What will you, Senator [Harris or Feinstein] do to ensure that the Senate investigation follows the trail of evidence to its end?

Gutting healthcare

Hi, my name is and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I’m calling because I am extremely concerned about Trump’s proposed cuts to Medicaid, the National Institutes of Health (NIH),  the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Department of Agriculture (USDA).  I ask that the senator to take a strong and public stance in opposition to all of these cuts and fight to protect the many federal programs that support human health and scientific research.
Cutting funding for lifesaving medical research, the critical response system to disease outbreaks, defunding healthcare programs that millions rely on, and slashing funding for food stamps and other food assistance programs is cruel and shortsighted. Not only are these programs critical to the health and safety of ALL Americans, but they typically receive bipartisan support.

Cutting the housing lifeline

Hi, my name is  and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I am calling because I am concerned about the huge cuts to funding for housing in the federal budget. Federal funding of public and affordable housing is a lifeline for millions of people.

The proposed cuts will cause public housing for working families to deteriorate and homelessness to rise. They will further burden low-income families already squeezed by the high cost of housing. In addition, they will severely cut the budget for the construction of new or improved affordable housing units.

I understand that the Republican President’s budget may not be approved as is, and fear that it will be used as a starting point for bargaining. Asking for outrageous changes can make just awful changes seem palatable. I ask that the senator/representative issue a public statement opposing these cuts to the housing budget and vote against any decrease in funding for public and affordable housing. Thank you.

With thanks to Indivisible Brooklyn’s scripts.

Oppose “The Worst Bill You’ve Never Heard Of”

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I am calling to urge Senator (Harris or Feinstein) to reject the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 (RAA), which guts protections for our environment, safety, and health.

Oppose the Financial CHOICE Act

Hi, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.  I am calling to urge Representative (Thompson or Huffman)to vote NO on the Financial CHOICE Act (H.R. 10), which rolls back protections put in place the last time Wall Street gambled away our savings, homes, and jobs. It’s scheduled for a vote this week, and is one more step toward risking another depression.

ICE and Detention Centers

Hi, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I am calling to urge Representative [Thompson or Huffman] to continue to speak out about his support of Hugo Mejia and our undocumented community.
There have been reports of harsh conditions in ICE detention centers. In the last 7 months eight immigrant detainees have died in ICE custody in the US. Out of 33,126 complaints of sexual assault and physical abuse of immigrants being held in detention centers, only 570 have been investigated. Will the Congressman take a position on the treatment of detainees and the importance of safe conditions in detention centers?

The Environment

Hi, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Although the Republican President has announced that he will withdraw our country from the Paris Accord, the scientific facts are that climate change is directly related to human activity. California has determined that it will continue to pursue its climate goals. How will you, Representative [Thompson or Huffman], ensure that California is able to move forward into a cleaner and healthier 21st Century?
