Phone Scripts 6.8.2017

Scripts thank Senator Harris for her strength, and ask both our Senators to be strong with the Comey testimony /Mueller investigation. We ask that Senator Feinstein oppose the nomination of Bush for the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and thank our Congressmen for ensuring that California moves forward into a cleaner and healthier 21st Century.

Thank Senator Harris

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I am calling to thank Senator Harris for her persistent questioning of Rod Rosenstein. I applaud her firm approach to seeking support for a fully independent investigation into how Russia affected the recent presidential campaign. Thank you.

Feinstein:

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I urge Senator Feinstein to raise questions and, if warranted, vote NO on the appointment of John Bush to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. At a time when we need strong, independent judges on our federal courts, the Republican President offers nominees who will push their ultra-conservative agenda.

Background:

John Bush equated abortion with slavery as one of the "greatest tragedies in our country" in his shady, anonymous blog. He worked with right-wing group Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence, which has a long history of pushing anti-choice policies and championing anti-choice organizations like Susan B. Anthony List.
He applauded Mike Huckabee for saying that he "strongly disagree with the idea of same-sex marriage."

Questions for Director Comey

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. Director Comey will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday morning. Whatever his testimony includes, whether or not it broader or more specific than his written statement, I am asking Senator [Feinstein or Harris] to persistently question whether the Republican President has tried to interfere with the investigation - and has committed obstruction of justice, and to raise these questions in committee, on the floor, and with the media. I also ask that the Senator ensure that any investigation on Russian involvement in the recent presidential election will be pursued to the end. Thank you.

Comey’s prepared statement

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I am calling to encourage Senator [Harris or Feinstein] to continue to ask about the Republican President’s efforts to obstruct the investigation into connections between the Republican President’s campaign and Russian officials. Thank you.

Background: Comey's opening statement was just released, and it clearly states that President Trump asked him to stop investigating disgraced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, and that President Trump also asked him for a loyalty pledge. It’s clear that President Trump has no respect for our democracy or for the rule of law. That’s why it’s so important that we get the full truth about this administration’s ties to Russia, and any efforts to obstruct the investigation into Russian interference with our elections.

Thank the Representative for his support for our planet

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I am calling today to thank Representative [Thompson or Huffman] for their commitment to our future, by sustaining the goals of the Paris Climate Accord.  I have been justly proud of American leadership on climate change, but this year the Republican President has abdicated that leadership role in fighting global climate change and allowed other nations to lead on clean energy and job creation. Thank you.

Background: Representative Huffman joined other west coast members of Congress supporting the governors of California, Oregon, and Washington in their decision to form a "green wall" to maintain climate leadership in the country. If the Republican administration won't lead, our states must. Representative Thompson joined the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus to work with business leaders, local organizers, leading researchers, and others to protect our environment, economy, and natural resources. A grateful world thanks them for this commitment.

Infrastructure

Hi, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. This week the Republican President released his plan for infrastructure improvements. He as determined that eliminating ‘red tape’ and streamlining approvals will decrease the cost of building and maintaining bridges, roads, train tracks, and airports. That red tape and those approval delays have been created in response to badly managed, poorly built, and dangerous infrastructure sites - built under contract to the government.  The Republican President wants to completely privatize the process. How will you, Representative [Thompson or Huffman], guarantee that any changes to government regulations safeguard the health and welfare of workers and those who use the facilities? Thank you.
