The Senate is trying to do what the House of Representatives did in May: jam through its TrumpCare bill without an honest and open discussion about its full impact on American families. In addition to our continued fight against repeal of the ACA, we ask for our lawmakers to introduce a bill that requires states to upgrade and secure their voter data, to halt elimination of the Legal Services Corporation, and to denounce the Republican President’s use of name-calling and unforgivable language.

Healthcare I

Support Senators as they hold the line on TrumpCare and push for bipartisan solutions to improve the ACA

Hi, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.

I want to thank Senator [Feinstein or Harris] for her strong support for her constituents by opposing TrumpCare. The Republican President and his Republican Congress have forgotten that the goal is to provide affordable, comprehensive healthcare for all - and by forgetting that, they have risked the health and welfare of tens of millions of individuals and families. Now the Republicans are challenging the Democrats to find solutions for the problems the Republican Congress has caused.  I agree that we can improve the ACA and thank the Senator for joining the new bipartisan group on prescription drugs. Please ask the Senator to do two things:

1) Keep pushing for bipartisan solutions to improve the ACA.

2) Keep doing everything she can to block a vote on TrumpCare, including filibustering by introducing the amendments we’ve been submitting through OurAmendments.org. Hold the line!

Healthcare II

Oppose Senator Cruz’ proposed changes to TrumpCare

Hi, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.

Senator Cruz has proposed changes to TrumpCare in an effort to make its passage more palatable. But the result of those changes will make healthcare more unaffordable for many. I’m calling to urge Senator [Feinstein or Harris] to oppose this tweak to TrumpCare that creates problems for many already suffering from existing conditions, and drives the insurance marketplace further into crisis.

Voter data

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.

I am deeply concerned about preserving democratic elections, and find the ongoing accusations of ‘widespread voter fraud’ unconscionable, particularly as the Republican President has done nothing to address the known danger of Russian hacking. This, after the Republican Party was hacked, and data on millions of voters stolen. California’s Secretary of State has joined with others to refuse to provide the information that the Republican President’s so-called ‘bipartisan committee’ has demanded. But the clear solution is to strengthen US laws that protect both voter registration data and guarantee the security of the ballot.

Will Senator [Feinstein or Harris] introduce a bill that requires states to upgrade and secure their voter data? Will the Senator also speak in opposition to the demands of the ‘bipartisan committee?’

Legal Services and the budget

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip].  I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.

Every year, millions of our neighbors benefit from legal representation that is funded through our taxes. But the Republican President wants to take this funding away. In the “ skinny budget” released in March, the Republican President proposed eliminating the Legal Services Corporation entirely. At the time, this produced bipartisan pleas for “robust funding” for the organization. Nonetheless, last week a House appropriations subcommittee passed a bill that would slash the organization ’s funding by roughly a quarter, from $385 million to $300 million.

The entire House will discuss the budget and all its parts. What is Representative [Huffman or Thompson] doing to preserve this service? How will he guarantee legal representation for us all?

Ableist speech and the Republican President

Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [Address, City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County.

I’m calling to urge Representative [Huffman or Thompson] to strongly denounce the Republican President’s use of name-calling and unforgivable language. Not only is it reprehensible that our president engages in name-calling, but it is doubly reprehensible that he uses words like ‘low IQ,’ ‘Psycho’ and ‘Dummy’ as his choice of insult. Using these terms as slurs is dehumanizing to those who experience cognitive delays and to those who experience mental illness.

Given the Republican President’s recent tweets, which used these and similar terms, I urge the Representative to speak up in opposition. The Republican President may not learn, but I expect the Representative to point out that this is NOT normal and is NOT acceptable.

Background:

Ableism, the individual or systematic discrimination against and stigmatization of people with disabilities or people perceived to have disabilities, is still an unfamiliar concept to many Americans — some of whom aren’t even willing to admit that racism or sexism are real. Ableists convey the message that disabled people are not full members of our society, leading to exclusion and even abuse. Trump is fully complicit in sending precisely that message.
