Congress returns to Washington this week, and they have a ton on their plate to finish by the end of September. They must raise the debt ceiling, agree on a plan to fund the government, and reauthorize critical programs such as the national flood insurance and Children’s Health Insurance. We ask our MoCs to protect DACA, to censure the President and to begin formal inquiry into the possibility of impeachment.

Comments at Commonwealth Club
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I am extremely disappointed by the Senator’s comments at the Commonwealth Club on Tuesday night. In light of the recent Fox News that 56% of voters think the President is "tearing this country apart," does the Senator really stand behind the idea that Trump is “learning and changing?” I am deeply troubled by her apparent belief that this presidency is salvageable. While I respect her willingness to put the interests of the nation above the partisan rancor, this is not a ‘learn on the job situation!” President Trump is not going to learn to change his natural instinct to divide and provoke.
Given Charlottesville, the continued and unnecessary provocations of the dangerous situation with North Korea, his recent abuse of his pardon power, the lingering questions about complicity with the covert Russian infiltration in our recent election, his blatant self-dealing, his contempt for anyone not of his race, and the verbal violence he betrays towards the the press and towards anyone who criticizes him, he is leading our country into a full blown crisis. Will the senator commit to censuring the President each time he fails to uphold the dignity of his office and provide the moral leadership we require from the leader of our country? I urge the senator to immediately demand higher standards in the Oval Office. Will the senator commit to censuring the President each time he fails to uphold the dignity of his office and provide the moral leadership we require from the leader of our country?
For Both Senators:
Protect DACA -- and pressure your colleagues to co-sponsor the DREAM Act 2017!
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. Thank you for co-sponsoring recently introduced DREAM Act (S. 1615). I’m calling today because DACA, a program that protects nearly 800,000 Dreamers from deportation, is under attack and Dreamers need your continued help.
As you know, dreamers work in every industry and at nearly every single major company in America. They are teachers and nurses, managers and military personnel. They are part of the fabric of our nation and we’re stronger because of them. The bipartisan 2017 DREAM act needs more support. Please work across the aisle to pressure your colleagues to pass legislation so that young immigrants are protected from deportation and eligible for lawful permanent residence.
For Both Congressmen:
Hi, my name is _____. I’m a constituent in zip code _____, and a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I am calling to ask Representative [Thompson or Huffman] to draft and offer a resolution authorizing the Judiciary Committee to investigate whether there are sufficient grounds for impeaching Donald Trump. The Committee should consider whether the President has abused his power with respect to the Russia investigations and whether he has attempted to subvert our democratic institutions by attacking the press, undermining the intelligence community and judiciary, encouraging law enforcement abuses, and enabling white supremacists. I am not asking for the Congressman to draft articles of impeachment, just that a formal inquiry into the possibility of impeachment be commenced. Thank you.
For Senators AND Representatives
Reject one penny more of tax giveaways for the rich.
Hello, my name is _____ and I live at [City, Zip]. I am also a member of Indivisible Sonoma County. I’m calling to encourage the [Senator or Representative] to work toward rational and effective tax reform that maintains and protects revenue - and to not support ‘tax reform’ that cuts funding for services. The Republicans can all agree on one thing: the tax rate for wealthy individuals and corporations should be reduced - and the offset for this reduction in revenue ought to come from programs that provide supplemental nutrition, early childhood education, direct medical care, supplemental housing, and other services for the elderly, children, and the poor. The Republican Congress has only one idea for tax reform - take from the poor to give to the rich. I urge[Senator/Representative] to take the Not One Penny pledge to protect our programs, and reject any legislation that gives one penny more of tax giveaways to the rich.
Make a public statement denouncing ACA enrollment outreach sabotage.
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to urge the [Senator or Representative] to make a public statement condemning the sabotage of the Affordable Care Act by the Trump administration. Every county in the US now has at least one insurance company in the ACA Marketplace, despite efforts to discourage and hinder the ACA. Last week the Republican President and hisDepartment of Health & Human Services (HHS) made another effort to hinder the ACA when they announced that the funding for advertising and other outreach for the ACA will be cut by 90% – from $100M to $10M. This is a clear attempt to sabotage the ACA and to undermine the health of American citizens. The action is also being delivered with the message that the ACA is “not working”, which is a lie. It is the Republican administration itself that is damaging the ACA and compromising its effectiveness. Will the [MoC] make a forceful public statement denouncing this outrage?
Demand Trump Stop Dismantling the EPA
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to demand that the Trump administration reinvest in making the EPA an effective department that truly protects the environment. 13 of the 41 Superfund sites in Texas were affected by Hurricane Harvey, yet as of Saturday, September 2nd, the EPA was MIA, having visited only two of the sites in Corpus Christi. This is not surprising, since the Trump administration has been doing everything in its power to undermine the agency’s effectiveness, but it is also not excusable.
The EPA exists to protect the American public from hazards in the environment. Undermining the agency, as is clear from the example of Hurricane Harvey, places Americans at risk of harm. Will the [Senator or Representative] demand that the Trump administration stop dismantling the EPA and use the Superfund sites as an egregious example of Trump’s damaging of the agency?
Call out lies about business deals with the Russians.
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to make a public statement condemning he Republican President and his campaign staff for lying about their attempts to leverage the campaign in order to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. Trump Organization executive vice president. Michael Cohen, made efforts in January 2016to enlist the help of a Vladimir Putin spokesman to revive the deal. This is unacceptable: Russia is a hostile foreign power and presidential candidates cannot use their candidacy as leverage for their business interests, nor should they allow themselves to be beholden to a foreign power. Since assuming the presidency, Trump and Company have continued to lie about their involvement with Russia as well as todefend Putin.
In addition, nothing seems to frighten him more than mention of the Russia investigation. Will the [MoC] make a forceful public statement specifically calling out Trump’s lies about this hidden and improper deal attempt?
Investigate 2016 Election Tampering
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. The Republican President appointed a Voter Fraud Commission that has seemingly been focused on defending the Republican President’s lies about ‘voter fraud’ rather than investigating the real impact of Russian hacking and possible tampering with the 2016 election.
I’m calling to ask the [Senator/Representative] to demand a more thorough investigation of the 2016 election with a focus on back-end election apparatus of election rolls and voting equipment. We know that hacking was done, but we’ve had no thorough investigation. Needless to say, if our voting machinery and process can be attacked, our entire democratic process is in grave danger. This is an issue that needs to be investigated and solved well before the 2018 elections, which means that action must be immediate.
Will the the [Senator/Representative] demand an immediate andthorough investigation into the hacking and possible tampering with the 2016 election, and introduce legislation supporting an independent commission.
For both Representatives
Insist the U.S. rebuild all storm damaged areas, not some stupid wall!
Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. Members of the Texas delegation are leading efforts to appropriate emergency relief for Houston, coastal Texas, and Louisiana. I hope Representative [Thompson or Huffman] supports aid for areas affected by Hurricane Harvey and other natural disasters. The Republican President has called for massive cuts to FEMA, the coast guard, and other programs that are essential to prepare for and respond to disasters like Harvey in order to direct those funds toward the construction of a wall separating the US from Mexico. I am calling to urge the Representative to stand firm both on the floor and in the media and insist our country’s resources be used to rebuild all storm damaged areas, not some stupid wall.
The Gulf Coast needs infrastructure, medical help, jobs and economic security to rebuild, not a thousand mile long political posture for the Republican President’s worldview. But funding is the job of Congress. Please go to the mat to ensure these important programs are not cut. And the resources that Texas so clearly needs must not be redistributed from any other health and welfare programs, especially those that serve our neighbors who have the least resources. Housing, education, food, and transportation all depend on Federal funds.
