Protecting our safety is the first responsibility of our elected officials. This week, let us thank President Biden for standing up to the Dirty Energy companies and protecting our climate.
We also need to push him to confront Greg Abbott in Texas, who is in open rebellion against our government.
And we need him to curtail the flow of weapons to Israel until Netanyahu stops committing war crimes in Gaza.

Texas governor Greg Abbott is in open rebellion of both the federal government and the Supreme Court, defying both by controlling a section of the border with his own troops and killing asylum seekers in the process. His rebellion cannot stand.

END THE GENOCIDE.
STOP SENDING THE BOMBS.
Last week Israeli Prime Minster Bibi Netanyahu said what has long been obvious out loud: he will oppose any two-state solution for Palestinians, insisting instead that Gaza must be under Israeli control.
Netanyahu is clearly intent on continuing his genocidal attacks on Gazans until they are either dead or have fled, leaving Gaza to Israel. This directly contradicted America’s requirement for a resolution to the crisis.
But when President Biden was asked about Netanyahu’s statement, he insisted that Bibi wasn’t opposed to all two-state solutions. Netanyahu promptly defied him. Meanwhile, Gazans continue to be killed and hundreds of thousands are facing mass starvation and disease.
Biden’s misplaced optimism (or denial) is allowing the genocide to continue, supplied by U.S. bombs, while damaging his chances for reelection at home. We need to put more pressure on him and all Democrats to push for an immediate ceasefire. No other solution will allow essential supplies of food, water, and medicine to reach the Palestinians Bibi is trying to drive out of Gaza.
We must stop abetting Israel’s genocide in Gaza. It is morally indefensible and is destroying both Israel’s future security and America’s standing in the world. The United States must end its military support, now.

Our senator, Laphonza Butler, was one of only eleven senators who voted for Senator Bernie Sanders’ resolution asking the State Department to investigate allegations that Israel is committing war crimes in its war on Gaza, setting up the possibility of conditioning aid. To be clear, the resolution was only asking the State Department to investigate. All of the senators shamefully voting against the resolution, including our own Senator Padilla, would rather not know if Israel is committing war crimes.

REPEAL THE UTILITY TAX
Last year, the Legislature passed a law (AB 205) that would add a Utility Tax to everyone’s electricity bill.
This Utility Tax is uncapped, with unlimited potential to grow. Now the utilities and some organizations are proposing the highest Utility Tax in the country—between $400 and $1,500 per year just for being hooked up to the grid. The Utility Tax proposals will increase utility bills for millions of working and middle class people across California.
The proposals will hit particularly hard on people who live in apartments or homes that use less electricity. The Utility Tax will also discourage all forms of energy conservation, such as turning off the lights, putting in new windows, or installing solar panels.
Our legislators voted to create this mess, and now they need to fix it before state regulators make a final decision early next year.
Please call your State Legislators and tell them to fix this mess:
I’m calling to ask you to repeal the Utility Tax provision in AB 205. The Utility Tax will increase electricity bills on millions of working and middle class households. The Utility Tax will also discourage all forms of energy conservation. Since the Legislature voted for the Utility Tax, the Legislature needs to fix this mess. Will you support a repeal of the Utility Tax?
