By joining together in America, in the region, and all over the world, we can change course and ensure a life of freedom, safety, and belonging for every Palestinian and every Israeli.

We can also demand that Sacramento repeal the Utility Tax provision passed just last year. This tax will increase electricity bills on millions of working and middle class households in California, and there is no limit to how much it can grow.

REINSTATE A CEASEFIRE IN GAZA

In America, in Palestine, and in Israel, no matter what our religion or background, we all deserve a life of safety and freedom for ourselves and our families.

But today, as people in Palestine and Israel mourn and seek safety, corrupt failed leaders are setting the region on fire and targeting ordinary people with war crimes. In order to claim and hold power, they are trying to convince us that safety for some must come at the expense of safety for others.

We can demand that our leaders support immediate steps to help those in danger. Right now, that means preventing massive civilian deaths in Gaza, bringing people held captive home, and preventing any further atrocities and crimes against civilians, no matter what they look like or where they live.

We can also demand long-term solutions for people of the whole region, whether they’re Palestinian or Israeli, like ending funding of the Israeli military’s occupation and siege of the West Bank and Gaza and supporting people who simply want to live their lives and raise their families in peace.

By joining together in America, in the region, and all over the world, we can change course and ensure a life of freedom, safety, and belonging for every Palestinian and every Israeli.

I’m calling to ask the [Congressman / Senator] to call for a renewed ceasefire in Israel and occupied Palestine, to send humanitarian aid and assistance to Gaza, and to save as many lives as possible. I am also asking [him/her] to CONDITION aid to Israel on their adherence to the international laws of war. No more war crimes, no more collective punishment.

REPEAL THE UTILITY TAX

Last year, the Legislature passed a law (AB 205) that would add a Utility Tax to everyone’s electricity bill. This Utility Tax is uncapped, with unlimited potential to grow. Now the utilities and some organizations are proposing the highest Utility Tax in the country—between $400 and $1,500 per year just for being hooked up to the grid. The Utility Tax proposals will increase utility bills for millions of working and middle class people across California. The proposals will hit particularly hard on people who live in apartments or homes that use less electricity. The Utility Tax will also discourage all forms of energy conservation, such as turning off the lights, putting in new windows, or installing solar panels.

Our legislators voted to create this mess, and now they need to fix it before state regulators make a final decision early next year.

The Utility Tax will also discourage all forms of energy conservation. Since the Legislature voted for the Utility Tax, the Legislature needs to fix this mess.
