A plague on all of our houses - that’s what the fossil fuel companies have unleashed. It’s time for President Biden to declare a climate emergency and begin to use the executive powers vested in him, right away. We also need our senators to break the blockade holding back judicial nominations and begin to rein in the rogue MAGA justices on the Supreme Court.

TREAT WHITE SUPREMACIST VIOLENCE

The president has acknowledged that white supremacist violence is the most serious terrorist threat we face. I am asking him to treat it as a national emergency: launching an investigation and using the power of all federal agencies. The effort must include the deNazification of law enforcement and the military.

TRUMP MUST BE DISQUALIFIED FROM RUNNING

The Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment, Section Three, bars anyone who has participated in an insurrection against our country from running for office. Judicial experts across the spectrum agree that this clearly disqualifies Donald Trump from running for office. I’m asking the Secretary to publicly declare Trump ineligible to be on the ballot in California, citing the Fourteenth Amendment.

REPEAL THE UTILITY TAX

I’m calling to ask you to repeal the Utility Tax, Public Utilities Code Section 739.9. The tax increases the utility bills of millions of Californians while discouraging energy conservation. It has to go.

BREAK THE BLUE SLIP BLOCKADE
Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee (on which both of our senators serve) are voluntarily giving Republicans a veto over many judicial nominations, using an antiquated procedure called the blue slip.
Their vetos are harming Americans, particularly in red states, who are denied access to fair and impartial judges. There is no excuse for letting Republicans continue to block the appointment of fair and impartial judges. Read the details here, then please make this call.

I’m calling to ask the Senator to join with Senators Blumenthal and Hirono by making a public announcement calling for an end to the outdated blue slip practice. This antiquated routine is allowing Republicans to veto vital judicial appointments. Americans in the affected states are suffering for lack of fair and impartial justices. This has to stop. End the anachronistic blue slip procedure now.
