Climate Change is Making Firestorms and Hurricanes More Deadly

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. This year we have had two severe hurricanes.  This month huge swaths of Sonoma and Napa Counties were decimated by raging firestorms.  Two years ago, similar wildfires wiped out communities in Lake County as well.  As a result of these tragedies, thousands of people have lost family members, friends and at the very least everything they owned.  The economic costs of rebuilding, too, are enormous. We need to pay attention to what these catastrophes are telling us.  Climate scientists have been warning us that events like these would occur:  climate change is a root cause.

Trump and the Republican Party are in complete denial about the realities of climate change. Ignoring and suppressing overwhelming evidence, they live in a fact-free fantasy world, as we in the real world find ourselves in greater and greater danger. They won’t change but must be challenged, called out and defeated.

Will [the MoC] use every opportunity to loudly call out climate change as the root cause of these natural disasters and castigate Republican inaction?

Block Any Nomination to Replace Dana Boente

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible.
I’m calling to urge [the Senator] to block any nomination to replace the ousted US Attorney for the Eastern District, Dana Boente, until such time as Special Counsel Mueller has completed his work. Blocked by Congressional action and increasingly isolated by the legal noose tightening around his Administration, we fear that the President will stop at nothing, including a modern day "Saturday Night Massacre," to escape disclosure of the depths of Russian involvement and the inevitable consequences of his campaign's activities during the 2016 elections. This must not be allowed to happen.

Will the Senator vote to block any nomination to replace the ousted US Attorney for the Eastern District, Dana Boente, until such time as Special Counsel Mueller has completed his work?

Call for House Judiciary Committee to begin Impeachment proceedings!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Representative [Thompson/Huffman] to authorize the Judiciary Committee to open a formal inquiry into the possible impeachment of Donald J Trump. Through his abuses of power, his failure of moral leadership and his abandonment of the basic duties of his office, Trump has shown himself unfit to serve and should be impeached. Now with his campaign associates indicted, we must being the process immediately.

Will the Congressman immediately and publicly support authorizing the Judiciary Committee to open a formal inquiry into the possible impeachment of Donald J Trump?

Stop the Republican Tax Scam

Hi, my name is ____ and I live in Zip _____. [Full address if needed.] I am a member of ______group.

I am calling/writing to ask the Congressman to do everything in his power to oppose the Trump Tax plan giveaway that the GOP is rushing through Congress.  I applaud his stated opposition to any plan that is unfair to middle class Americans. This plan is that and more.

Like Trump University, this is a con that we will all end up paying for as it enriches the wealthiest Americans.

The Republican’s plan is swamped with provisions that benefit only those with $1 million and more annual incomes.  There is little or nothing at all, except an increase in the Federal debt, for anyone who works for a living.  The Republican pitch for their plan is their same old lie of trickle-down economics:  the same lie that failed under Reagan, failed under W and, most recently, devastated Kansas and nearly bankrupted their state in the process.

We need the Congressman to be a leader, and we need every Democratic Member to stand up and do whatever they can to slow down this bill in committee and on the floor until the public has time to learn exactly what this tax scam will mean for them.

Background:
The principal proposals of the GOP tax “reform” bill are extremely regressive. Under the guise of tax simplification, the plan is swamped with provisions that benefit only those with $1 million and more annual incomes.  There is little or nothing at all, except an increase in the Federal debt, for anyone who works for a living.  The US unsuccessfully tried “trickle down” twice before.  Kansas tried it again a few years ago and nearly bankrupted their state in the process.

The GOP budget calls for slashing health care and other programs that benefit the middle and working classes, essentially punishing wage earners.  All this to pay for the costs of reducing the tax “burden” on those earning $1 million a year and more. With its desire to eliminate the inheritance tax completely, the GOP looks to permanently enshrine a plutocrat class in America for generations to come.  This is anti-Americanism in the extreme.  Wealth and inequality in our country is a serious social problem.,  This regressive and dangerous tax measure will only make that problem far worse by burdening us all with debts to pay for the benefits enjoyed by the few.

Like Trump University, this is a con that promises unbelievable returns for the mark, while taking his or her hard-earned money and giving it to the grifter - and in this case, his billionaire friends.  If the GOP wants to promote tax reform that will truly benefit the American middle class, they need to reach across the aisle to forge a plan that will be good for working Americans and that will not pull the rug out from under the working poor.  One that taxes the rich and corporations, not that showers them with wealth they don’t need while taking away programs that benefit hard-working Americans.

Fund CHIP now!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask Representative [Thompson/Huffman] to do everything in [here/his] power to secure clean funding for CHIP now. The Children’s Health Insurance Program provides insurance to 9 million American children.

Funding it should be a no-brainer. Yet the program was allowed to expire on October 1st and it still hasn’t been renewed. Although states have some funds to cover the near-term, those funds will run out – including in California, which will run dry by the end of December.

Now the House GOP, forever determined to destroy programs that keep Americans healthy and productive, are trying to tie passage to yet another effort to undermine the Affordable Care Act. Enough is enough. Please demand that CHIP be extended now, without conditions.

Hold PG&E Accountable for Causing Wildfires

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I live in Sonoma County, which has been unimaginably devastated by the firestorms that have swept our county this month. While we don’t yet know the cause(s) of the firestorms, there have been multiple reports of power lines shorting out during the night of October 8th, when the fires started. It’s distinctly possible that PG&E is responsible for some or all of the firestorms. Yet even now PG&E is attempting to shirk responsibility for the 2007 San Diego wildfires. They must not be allowed to pass the costs onto their ratepayers, but must bear all of the costs of those fires – and of ours, if they are found responsible – themselves. Those who are not held accountable will not change their behavior. If you allow them to evade responsibility, you will be placing our county in continued danger.

I’m demanding that the CPUC hold PG&E fully and financially accountable for wildfires that they have caused.
