Your calls change minds and encourage our Members of Congress. We are asking our representatives to oppose the Republican tax scam, support gun safety, protect American citizens who use the Affordable Care Act, and renew funding for CHIP programs for children all over the US.

The plan is a reverse Robin Hood scheme that will explode the deficit, and bind our children and grandchildren to corporate tax relief. Budgets are the best way to calculate the moral center of government. How much does the government allocate toward controlling behavior, and how much to feed the poor, care for the ill, house the poor? Does the government put its money into streets and schools, into clean air and water, or does it put more dollars toward commerce?

The Republican budget is a perfect calculation of values. It increases spending for the military, border security, and school choice by taking funding from diplomacy, the EPA, HUD and other department budgets.

Resilience. Fortitude. Heart.

Without exception, each of us has shown these strengths of character during what has now become the most devastating disaster our communities have ever experienced.

We are showing endurance and determination in the face of extreme adversity. We are showing patience and love despite sleepless nights. As a community we are pulling ourselves up and coming together and are showing grit and grace and the truest nature of the human heart.

This is not over, and we are far from being done. This disaster has left its mark on each of us. But we are moving forward, inch by inch, because we know that the only way over is through.

Starting now, we are inviting each of us to reengage to the extent that we can, and in ways that feel the most meaningful. There is much to be done to support and rebuild our community, and local action is where many of us will want to focus. Others may find that we feel called to return to national and state action.  We invite you to engage in rebuilding our community and our country.
